What's in A's name?

Stay connected for news and updates

Somehow a fan emailed me and wanted to know, "Why does the A's name have an apostrophe?"  I thought in this season of naming questions pondering the apostrophe seemed appropriate.  My idea is although an apostrophe usually denotes the possessive, in the A's case it is telling you not to try to sound out a word "As" as in as.  The apostrophe reminds you that in the name is a letter that stands for something then it is pluralized.  What do you think?
