Now we enter the bleak bleak months when there is no baseball. We wait every year knowing any day now our favorite A's player might leave the team. This year my favorite favorite looks all but gone. I still have the "Keep Tejada" sign I carried around the Coliseum in 2003. I still remember the game I got ovations carrying that sign around during a Wednesday night game when the upper deck was mostly full and Lilly was dealing. I love Chavvy, but I still wish we had kept Tejada instead. My sign didn't do shit.
But I was not going to be negative in this post. I haven't seen that much made of the Swisher/Bradley Handshake/Jig. What an unexpected surprise in the 2006 season. Here we have a guy with a history of attitude problems in Bradley, and then we have Swisher, a puppy dog who wants to do anything to help sell the team. I have never heard an explaination of how this crazy dance started. I would guess Swisher came up with it on his own, he said to himself, "self, we gotta do something with this Milton Bradley guy. We know he got game, but he needs a crazy handshake to get the cameras on us and show what a great funloving bunch we are." I could almost imagine Swish was told that making Bradley fit in was important. Whatever caused this thing, it was funny. It seemed to happen whenever Swish or Bradley hit a homer. The time Scutaro got involved added an even funnier twist to the funny dance. These guys in green and gold keep finding new ways to make me love them more. Too bad I am not a bear, I could just hibernate and wake up Feb 15th with spring training starting.
