Public Transportation Solutions for Cisco Field?
If the proposed BART extension is built to Warm Springs how will fans get from that location to Cisco Field? The distance will be about two miles which isn't that far. I offer two solutions to the problem.
A. Shuttle buses. Create a lane that is used only for shuttle buses 2 hours prior to the start of a game and for 1 hour after a game is completed. If you have this type of access to and from the park a shuttle ride wont last but a couple minutes which wouldn't be a huge inconvenience to fans as it takes a few minutes to walk across the current BART ramp in Oakland.
B. Build a two mile monorail from the BART Warm Springs extension to Cisco Field. This monorail could also be used to transport people to the shopping area that will resemble San Jose's Santana Row.
How feasible do you believe these two options are to create public transportation to/from the new ball park location?

Agreed.
Heck, in the Sydney Olympics, there was a no-driving rule in place that meant you had to take public transport to any and every stadium in the system, even countryside equestrian events.
Worked like a dream. No traffic, milions of people moved quickly and efficiently (and ecologically safely), and the initial bitching quickly subsided when the fun of taking a train with 200 like-minded souls sunk in.

If it came down to it, Lew.
If it came right down to it, there's no reason Lew couldn't fork out $10m, build a monorail, and be making money off it during game time and non-game time.
Chances are, however, he won't have to. Cities don't like spending on infrastructure. But they like even less watching their infrastructure die because they couldn't be arsed stretching a train line two miles.

public transit that is profitable
by devo on Nov 10, 2006 5:00 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Not so.
Of course, it costs more than 50c to ride, and there's routes that go all over, rather than one straight line, but that's the way to do it.

probably closer to
The cheapest option other than walking (buses) would cost about $20m.

Not possible
Every kind of rail transit involves buying the land for the tracks or "right of way." In the Bay Area, that cost is a big reason why rail is so expensive.
