It's decided: Zito game 1, Loaiza game 2

AP Story via FoxSports.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Ten of Oakland's top decision makers held a closed-door meeting in the manager's office Sunday and cast their votes on who should start for the Athletics in Game 2 of the AL championship series - Rich Harden or Esteban Loaiza.

The tally: Harden 5, Loaiza 5.

Loaiza won the tiebreaker based on his health, recent results and reliability. Harden has only pitched three times since missing more than three months with an elbow injury.

I'm not sure what I think of this decision.  If it means Harden is pitching Game 4, I feel like we're blowing a chance to use a great weapon twice in a short series.  If it means Harden is pitching Game 3, it puts him on schedule to pitch Game 7, and I don't know that an iffy Harden is the guy we want starting in a potential Game 7.

If the A's are willing to use Harden in relief in games 6 and 7, this decision could be a pretty good one.  But given his fragility, I'm not sure the A's would be willing to do that.
