2006 Playoff Predictions

Only 12 hours until Game 1.

The experts and the computers have all made their predictions.
If anyone else wants to make predictions, they can do so in this diary.

Star-divide

Here are mine.

ALDS: Twins over A's in 4
MVP: Morneau (if they had such an award in the DS)

ALDS: Yankees over Tigers in 4
MVP: Giambi

NLDS: Padres over Cardinals in 3
MVP: Peavy

NLDS: Mets over Dodgers in 5
MVP: Wright

ALCS: Twins over Yankees in 6
MVP: Santana

NLCS: Padres over Mets in 7
MVP: Young

World Series: Twins over Padres in 5
MVP: Santana

My predictions are not based on any actual analysis, I'm far too nervous for that at this point.
I won't pick the A's because I don't want to jinx them, and I'm picking the Twins and Padres because they're the only remaining teams that I don't hate.

Poll
Other than the A's, I will be rooting for:
Padres
12 votes
Dodgers
11 votes
Mets
6 votes
Cardinals
5 votes
Twins
7 votes
Tigers
8 votes
Yankees
0 votes
None of the above, cancel the rest of the playoffs if the A's lose!

My predictions for tomorrow & Wednesday
6:00 am... I'll arrive at work.

6:01-9:59 am... I'll work at about .00015% productive capacity while refreshing AN, waiting for Link Dump that won't get posted.

10:00 am... I'll bid a fond "Goodbye, and GO A's!" to ANers and close web browser.

10:15 am... I'll begin twitching, and put on iPod.

11:00 am... I'll go get some lunch from the taco truck, and do the hands-over-the-ears "la la la la la...!" thing when that I.T. guy who likes the A's approaches me.

11:30 am - 1:00 pm... I'll resume working, but at as low as .00004% capacity as the end-of-game time draws nearer and I wrestle with heavy-duty urges to peek at the internet.

1:01-2:14 pm... I'll stare at the computer while doing absolutely nothing.

2:15 pm... I'll email my sister and ask her to check for me about whether or not the game is over, and to respond with absolutely no smileys or frowneys or any other kind of emoticon at all, just a "yes." or a "no."

2:30 pm... I'll try really hard to not run out to my car, and remember that the speed limit on El Camino Real is 35 mph.

3:00 pm... If my sister said the game was over, I'll start watching my tape; if the game wasn't over yet at 2:15, I'll sit in the middle of the floor and cry.

Man, this would make a good movie..
and I wouldn't care if it mirrored Office Space.  Funny read.

Sorry you won't be able to watch the game till you get home (yep, it's complete b.s.)   Hope you have a good day anyways.

Good luck!
I've had more failed attempts at the ballgame cone of silence than I've had successes.  Watch out for random TVs and radios, and turn off your car radio before work.

I've already blown prediction #1
I was a few minutes late for work because I had to sit in the parking lot and listen to the rest of Bleacher Dave's call to KNBR... then I had to go back out to my car to turn off the radio (actually, before I turned it off, I set it on FM 88.3, where there's no station -- just in case the car is struck by lightning during the day and the radio spontaneously turns itself back on).

Most importantly...
Start the tape before you turn the TV on.....I have been screwedmultiple times turning it on to start the tivo or start a tape and saw the score in that split second.

Got a plan for that, too!
I'm going to set the cable converter box to 65 (Animal Planet) before I turn the TV on!  No way Animal Planet will be showing baseball scores.

Will they?

I hate to say this
As long as he's not playing the A's, I would love to see A-Rod just blow up in the postseason. Then people will finally shut up about Jeter being the better shortstop.

Career Postseason:

A-Rod .305/.393/.534
Jeter .307/.369/.463

I rest my case

Gee, Isn't everybody being so honest
A's in 4, YOU WEAKLINGS

To hell with the insider's truth, just try to visualize a few timely hits here and there, a strong job by the starter and pen, and one A's win in the Metrodome.

And then visualize along with me us just kicking their collective, overrated ass in two straight games at the Coliseum.

That's my prediction.

Oh, and to hell with  Johan Santana, too--I'm sick of all this goddamn apologetic tiptoeing around this series.

Largest Hatebase
I think there are very few people who are fans of other teams who would root for the Yankees to win anything.  They represent what's wrong with baseball.

Personally, I'd root for the Yankees only if they were playing a team of Klansmen with Hitler on the mound.

Signatures? We don't need no stinking signatures.

by jubjub on Oct 3, 2006 7:17 AM PDT up reply actions

that would be a close call for me
i think i'd just root for an exciting and well played seven game series, but with hitler getting a no decision.

Hard time seeing that far into the future w/o Gm 1
Unfortunately, I had a dream last night that Zito went 7 and gave up 2, and Santana went 8 and gave up 1 (yeah, no surprise).  I hope I'm wrong in our favor.
