Larry Bowa

I know most of AN wants Ron Washington as the next manager and I'd be fine with that.

My first and favorite choice would be Larry Bowa.
Bowa is a baseball guy with a hard nosed approach that would bring some definite fire to this A's team.

His style may conflict with how this club house operates but maybe that's what is needed.

Obviously he won't be a "Yes Mr. Beane" type of manager so that would be a problem but who knows. Perhaps Beane has now learned that that type of manager won't bring the A's a championship.

Larry Bowa and Milton Bradley.
That is all.

Larry Bowa is a dick
How can you or anybody else not have seen that in his work with the Phillies and even on Baseball Tonight.

He would be a horrible manager for this team.

I agree
He's Buck Showalter with less of a reputation as a smart guy and a bigger mouth.  And, like Buck, he has no track record of leading teams to succesful seasons.

I can't think of a single reason to prefer Bowa to Wash.

Chavez...
would get the Pat Burrell treatment.  Bowa would have him pressing, and Chavez would respond with a repeat of this year at the plate, even if healthy.

Beane seems to like him
And I trust Beane completely, so if Bowa was brought on board I'd feel fine.

That being said, we'd be passing up a huge opportunity in letting Wash go.

nobody mentions it but I think
Wash would take Texas job if offered over the A's job for the very reason he would be much closer to his home in New Orleans.

Not to mention the bigger paycheck.

Bowa would be a *horrible* choice for the A's
... though I do have a favorite Bowa moment, from way back when he managed the Padres in the 1980s:

Storm Davis was pitching for the Padres at the time, and groused one day to reporters about the way Bowa was using him.

Bowa's response, via the media:  "He thinks the SD on our cap stands for Storm Davis."

that sense of humor was never on display on ESPN

BB wants a loose dugout
Bowa has never run a loose dugout which is why he is always eventually shipped out because of a mutiny in the clubhouse.

Bowa spells disaster
Just seems to be a really bad fit to me.  Bradley and Bowa; Thomas and Bowa; Kendall and Bowa.  Smoking guns all over the place, and I think softer guys like Chavez would wilt in Bowa's presence. Not sure how Bowa would bring us a championship.
I still think the Big Hurt kicks ass.

That would be worth it
simply to hear him attempt to pronounce "Duchscherer."

Interesting
He was recently interviewed on MLB homeplate on XM. When asked if he would be interested in managing again, he said he would. His prior stints as A's manager were not very good, but in his defense he did not have much to work with. But he did take a first place A's in 78 and promtly dropped them to a sixth place finish.
Trader Jack is pritty hard on players, but has some good years. How do you think Billy would feel having someone with that much GM expertice in the dugout. Probably won't happen. But it would be fun to watch.

Bowa bad
Read some of the replies to BE's prior post for why Bowa would be a disaster:

Ive been debating recently about Dusty Baker
While I'm afraid of his use (overuse) of pitchers especially with our fragile bunch, he did have success with the Giants and with the Cubs in '03. I think since Beane would have more control over him than previous GM's he would engrave it in Dusty's mind to not over work the pitchers. I dont know though...
