R.I.P Cory Lidle: please read

by now a lot of people know about the tragedy in NYC, where a plane registered to Cory Lidle crashed into an appartment building in upper east side. Lidle was aboard and is feared dead. Times like this make the game of baseball seem un-important. A's stranded runners? So what its just a game.

I met Cory Lidle last summer out side  the phillies hotel in San Fran and  talked to him for half an hour . I Can honestly tell you he was the nicest athlete ive ever met.  I told him we missed him in Oakland and that his August of 2002 was simply amazing.

R.I.P. Cory Lidle.

Heard an interview with Byrnesie eariler today
called Lidle one of the most responsible teammates he has ever had.

Thanks for this diary, Robb--

Fuckin A Man
I got a tear in my eye today, when they had the moment of silence for Lidle today, and they had his lone #21 Jersey hanging in Tribute...

Times like this make baseball...
seem less important." Not to diminish Robb's sentiment, but to me, it makes the game of baseball seem more important than ever. Sports Illustrated found that the most common reaction of New Englanders to the Red Sox's Series win was "I wish (name of departed family member) was alive to see this." We're all going out someday, might as well have something to enjoy in the meantime.

Looking at pics of Cory Lidle...
made me tear.  A pic of the Lidle's Jersey hanging near the dugout is so sad.  Yesterday's lost hurts.  I know we are down 0-2 and a bigger lost when we lost a friend/A's family member in Cory Lidle.  But for some reason I'm not trippin' on the game.

I didn't watch most of the game, I played with my 15 month old daughter. She makes me realize there is more to life than baseball.

RIP Cory...you will be missed.

Go A's!!

Sad news
I was surprised and saddened when I heard the news.  Lidle wasn't a favorite, but as with all A's there are some fond memories.  His incredible hot streak in 2002.  And I will always remember his tradition/superstition of making a smudged line with his toe in the chalk whenever he crossed the foul line from the dugout to the mound.  I saw him pitch at a Phillies/Giants game this year, and I smiled when I saw he still did that.

I remember this too
I thought it was pretty cool. I told myself that if I ever got a chance to pitch, that I would do the same. Unfortunately, my one start in little league wasn't long enough to go back to the dugout (I hit three batters and walked seven, then got sent to play second base).

I'll still I do it if I ever get the final out in an inning.

Am I sick?
I just can't help but think that if he were still with the A's he'd be listed as 'day to day'

I'd like to think the A's
would at least have had the decency to put him on the 15-day DL.

Mike Rouse should hang his head...
We never should have let Lidle go to TOR/PHI/NYY. We should suit up his twin to pitch a charity game for the family. (Peterson couldn't tell the difference back in the day, until he threw)
