WBC Announces Pitch Count's And Mercy
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/worldclassic2006/news/story?id=2307629
"Pitchers in the first round of games, scheduled from March 3-10, will be limited to 65 pitches. The amount rises to 80 pitches for the second round, set for March 12-16, and 95 for the semifinals on March 18 and the championship March 20."
The whole 95 thing still scares me. Having our beloved Haren pitching 80 then 95 pitches after 4 days rest. This can still be abused.
"All games will use designated hitters. Games will be stopped after five innings when a team is ahead by 15 or more runs and after seven innings when a team is ahead by at least 10 runs. A game can be stopped in the middle of an inning if a team reaches the threshold."
Good idea, realisticly if anyone get's ahead by that many runs, there not coming back. Good job to prevent injury.

Don't stress too much
Haren
"I don't want to have any excuses,'' Haren said. "I want to be as strong in August and September as I am at the start of the season.''

Fortunately ...
Mercy Rule and Pitch Counts
Honestly, if you ask me, I'm starting to think that it would be best to go a different route and do an actual World Series.
Have the winner of the US World Series, Japan's WS team, and any of the other leagues in a tourny at the end of the season.
Then again, it might only work if it was US and Japan, since they are the strongest, most established leagues. And that might not work because of the players being exausted after the long season and the US World Series team falling behind in the off season, which would be too unfair.
But, then again, they can "delay" the start of the off season and it wouldn't have really any effect since the off season is so long to begin with.
If it was held after the season, that is
haren's wbc pitch count: 0
