Fanfest FAQ...
A bunch of the players are just walking around, autographs free. Last year I got Melhuse, Kendall, Duke, Dan Meyer, Swish and Ellis, among others. If I would've been more coordinated, I could've gotten more. It was so exciting last year, RIGHT after I got off the BART overpass, I saw Melhuse, Thomas, Meyer and Bobby Smith (who went to AAA and I think got released). It was cool, great photo op.
They have separate autograph sessions, but you have to pay (I think it was 15 last year, but you get a group of like 4 players). To pay for the autograph sessions, get there EARLY. I think I got there about 30-45 mins before it started and I was SOL. They also have Q&A sessions where fans can ask the players ANYTHING. I can't recall exact questions off the top of my head, but Z has gotten some fairly spicy questions from female admirers.
Radio booths will be all over, and players do interviews there. They have clubhouse tours, of which I highly recommend, and a bunch of other stuff to do.
I don't know much about ticket buying, but I would bargain for insane crowds.
Naturally, keep your eye out for anyone in an A's uni. A couple years ago, I saw a real tall guy in an A's uni... and I was like... no... couldn't be... it WAS Mulder. I ran, dragging my little brother behind me, as fast as I could, but I was never able to catch up :-(.
So there ya go.
Nico - We should have some sort of AN gathering or something, not sure. Don't know how to work that, but yeah.
Kbaca - Nope, no season tix necessary. Any A's fan can come. Last year, admission was like $10, so it should be something of the sort this year.
Maybe you, I, or someone else
How about... some sort of gathering/mingling
also, re: Q&A
And, for the kids...
There are free games/events for the kids all over the field - bouncy jumpers, giant slides, obstacle courses, etc. Sometimes long lines for these things, sometimes not so.
Ticket lines are very long.
Some sort of AN say hi thing would be great.
yah, long lines
Nicest memory is having fun bouncing off the outfield wall, being on the field.
Field was off-limits last year...
I'm pretty sure it was because
Trust me the Raiders weren't using that field...
Is it easy
I wish I could go to FanFest. :(
Ok, that's all I can remember. Hopefully my information's not outdated. And I don't think I've ever gotten single game tickets at FanFest, so I don't know how the lines would be for that. <sigh> I'm so jealous of y'all who will get to go to this...
I am

Keep your Eyes Open!
Last year, I was coming into the coliseum and I litterally ran right into Mark Ellis!! I was in such a hurry to get a ticket for a picture with Bobby that I just basically bounced off Ellis, said "Oh! Sorry, Excuse me!" he was like, "that's ok" and I took 2 more steps and went "OH MY GOD!" But by that point he was already occupied with other fans. That is when I noticed about 3 other players standing just inside the gates. If I had known that before going in, I would have taken my time.
That is another thing, this year, I am going to take the day slower. I spent so much of last year running around chasing Bobby from event to event, that I didn't really sit back and enjoy the whole day for what it was. So my goal for this year is to take it all in, absorb it more and just simply enjoy it. It is such a great day!!
Dang, now I am all excited!! I want to go now!!

Non resident A's fans?
<SIGH>
waaaaaaaaaaaaaaah
I'm ONLY 100 miles away...
100 Miles
Last year I met this mom and daughter in line, they were in town for fan fest. They were never able to make it to games, so they made a point to come out just for Fan Fest! I thought that was really nice.

Ok, I lied!
It could be worse. I could be living FAR, FAR, way... in Missouri. :P
<Hides under the table>
What?!!!
Gotcha.
<thinking>
Never mind. I think the stripper poles would be really cold this time of year. Things would freeze. Ugly.
What would be the point
I'd be down for an NRAF party.
Me too
He's a big guy.
I have issues.
NRAAAAAAAFFFF!! NRAAAAFFFFF!!!
Hahaha.
Coming soon to theaters: The Attack of the NRAF. Plot synopsis: The Non-Resident A's Fans contingent of AN schemes to take over a commercial airline in order to send all of their members to every A's game. Armed with laptops and chairs, the NRAF members warn their helpless victims with a battle cry of "NRAAAAAFFFFF!!!" before the <throwing chairs> commences.
Can I come to your NRAF party?
I wanna go too!
I asked my sis if she wanted to go with me (if I do go). She asked me what exactly happens at Fan Fest. I told her that A's players walk around naked. And she told me to take my mind out of the gutter. And then she said: "Do they really do that?" LOL. You wish.
A's players don't walk around naked
It's not even warm in January in Sac...
I hate...
I wouldnt've bounced... I would've stuck to him in some sort of quasi-gravitational pull... at least until Security arrived...
At least she didn't
Ellis = katamari.
you're on to something

I have a Mark Ellis story too...
I have educated him much better since that point, but every so often when I see Ellis I ask my dad, "Wait, who's that?" Good times. ;)
My fave Mark Ellis moment...

Good =]
I gotta order my tickets still, been busy and need to renew my season tickets =/. But, I will likely get them soon (this week?). Another 22 Game Fielders choice pack.
And, I will once again likely be in the Bleachers, and will probably sit with the Bums.
Will you be back in the bleachers or will you stay in your prefered seating area (IE: The Brocail Corral).
So e-mail me (osakaland@hotmail.com) about when/where you want to meet on the chosen day, or if we should just meet at 'That Place'. I can already tell you what I will likely be wearing-an A's Hoodie (havnt gotten an AN one, but hey, maybe I will and it will arrive in time) and a green Jersey with "ZONIS" on the back.
I'm permanently fixxed the bleachers:

Zonis, a man who called himself You-Know-Who
Oh, yeah. "Beer busts, beer blasts, keggers, stein hoists, A.A. meetings, beer nights..." It's wonderful, saint! I've never felt so accepted in all my life. These people look deep within my soul and assign me a number based on the order in which I joined.

Q and A
Fanfest always breaks my heart.
Resolved: that good pitching beats good hitting
by FreeSeatUpgrade on Jan 3, 2006 6:24 PM PST up reply actions
I can do that ...
I really hated it when people did that ...
I think I'll propose that to the topic committee.
More questions..
Last time i went...
Before the event i was waiting first in line for a free autograph signing by Erubiel Durazo that they were having for some radio station and i guess no one told Ruby cause he was headed in to the stadium when the radio station announced that he was here. So he turned round and started heading to the the stand.
Luckily for me Rich Harden and Danny Haren also joined him in coming to the stand.
I also met many other players.
I saw Mark Ellis just walking around the place casually till he got swarmed by fans.
It is a great event. My only advice is if you are looking to pay to get good autographsget there more then an hour early then line get insane and they sell out of the best players early.
Last year they had Rickey Henderson, Vida Blue, and Terry Steinbach signing.
Anyone know what former Athletics are coming this year?
Sigh...
Just this morning, I canceled a day-off request at work for that day JAN 28 so I could go to Tahoe on a different day :(
I wonder if I could cancel my cancellation? Now it seems like the off-season is flying by :)
2006 Promotions?
No clue.
I've never bought season tix...
You don't have to ...
Yeah
LF Bleacher bum too
Really?
I thought you had to exchange them after the fact to make that happen ...
I may continue as a season ticket holder afterall ...
The reason ...
11 is probably doable.
better make sure first
FC as 22 Ticket plan
