Harden will be available to pitch tomorrow. One day after throwing in a simulated game at the Coliseum, Harden felt good enough to play some light catch on Saturday, which meant that he'd be able to do some sort of work off the mound today. Another simulated game was deemed sort of redundant, so Harden's work could come in the game, if circumstances allow for it. The fact that Harden has not yet thrown his changeup is not a make-or-break issue, according to pitching coach Curt Young, who said, "I think he could pitch without it. He feels good enough about his health and the condition of his arm.'' Manager Ken Macha was not enthusiastic about the simulated game, saying he didn't like what he saw of Harden's breaking stuff. Macha also said he'd prefer Harden to be able to throw his changeup before he throws in a game.
Well, someone wants Harden to pitch...while Macha doesn't seem too comfortable with the idea. At least not without the changeup.
Harden says that he should be fine with his slider, splitter, and fastball BUT if those pitches don't work he might try to throw his changeup.
