Around SBN: Jeremy Lin's Game-Winner Was Incredible, Worth Remembering

A's making the best of a bad lineup

I am posting this from BP, becuase it is in their free content portion and contains information instead of expression, which I son't think can be copyrighted.

More importantly, I think it is interesting.

(1), the angels are only slightly less anemic that we in eqa.  But here is the thing I noticed----oakland is outperforming thier estimated runs scored by 29 runs- best in the majors.  Even though we are having a hard time putting runs on the board, we are doing so at a far bettter rate that expected. Tied with Seatle- but otherwise far above anyone else. The Yankees- for comparison, are underperforming thier expected runs by 8, and cleveland, by a whopping 26.  Dear god, I am glad they have not fugured out whatever it is we have, or the AL would be at their mercy.

Almost surely due to luck
... and, I think, probably not really consequential to our W-L record, since I would guess that all/most of our "lucky" runs have come in our big-ass blowouts.

I had them scoring 139 more runs this year than
Last year before the season.

How many more are they on pace for?

My guess is that they will score less than last:
Year, but, I can only dream of what may have been had the injuries not taken Durazo and Crosby away.

Man
I just realized that Mark Ellis will not qualify for the batting title. He'd need to average 5.3 PA for the rest of the year. Even leading off, thats impossible.

It's too bad, too.
Who was our last batting champ? Carney?

Last A's batting champ
was Ferris Fain back in the Philly days.

who won the NL batting title while with the A's.

That's true
He had enough at bats with the Cards in '90 to win the NL title.

A's Batting Titles
There's never been a batting title won at the Coliseum.  Both Carney and Ricky came in second at various times.

Coliseum has historically depressed batting average by 10-15%.

I wonder though if the A's outperforming their expected runs has something to do with Beane's new(ish) interest in contact hitters.

something funny
I just looked at MLB.com's "Milestone Tracker"... it shows Mark Kotsay currently has 82 stolen bases.  When (according to MLB.com) is he projected to reach 100?

Wait for it...

Next season.

Playing for the Oakland A's, he'll steal 18 bases in the next year.

BWAHAHAHAHA!!!

Can you imagine
If Rickey was coming up with the A's now instead of twenty-five years ago. Talk about milestones that never would have been reached.
