The A's are the second best team in baseball!

Neyer/James lovers out there will appreciate this...

ExWP: Expected winning percentage - ExW-L and ExWP are derived from Bill James' Pythagorean theorem of baseball: Runs scored [squared] / (Runs scored [squared] + runs allowed [squared]). This formula was designed to relate a team's runs scored and runs allowed to its won-lost record.

I'm sure most of you are familiar with this.  What you may not have realized is that currently (2:44 PM on 09/13), the A's sit second only to the Cardinals in expected winning percentage.  If you look in the column on the right, you can see the expected winning percentage:

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/rpi

.626 Cardinals
.588 A's
.583 Braves/Indians
.579 LAAAAAA
.573 ChiSox
.564 BoSox
.558 Mets
.546 Yankees/Astros

Just thought it was an interesting thing to point out.  Sure, games aren't played on paper and besides being good, you have to be lucky, but still, here we are in a transition/rebuilding year and we are already ahead of all of the $100 million+ teams.  I'll be ordering my season tickets for 2006 shortly!
