A's Focus on ESPN's Clubhouse Confidential

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=miller_gary&id=2125912

It talks a bit about DJ's fan club in Minny, the effect Crosby has had, but this one is hands down my favorite part of the article:

On a team littered with players suffering back ailments, Joe Blanton was laboring through a recent start, and holding his back at times. Kendall went to the mound to see if everything was all right. When Blanton said his back was fine, Kendall barked at him, "Then why don't you start throwing the ball like it then?" And he did.

Nice.

It's Funny That ...
Miller thinks the  A's "picked up" Ramon Hernandez for his offense.

If by "Picked up" he means "signed him, nurtured and developed him for six years in the minors, and played him for four years in the bigs," then I guess he's right.

I thought I remebered reading
a similar tough-love exchange between Kendall and Street, but can't find it now. Does anybody else recall this?

Kendall and Street
I think this was during spring training, after the A's had played the giants.  Street had just battled through a 10 pitch at-bat and finally got the guy out.  As they went back to the bench, Kendall said something like "Nice out.  Say, kid have you ever faced [giant's batter] before?"

And Street went "No, of course not."

And Kendall went "Well I have.  Many times.  And if you hadn't shaken me off so many times then you would have gotten him out in 3 pitches."

Kendall's humor
I like Kendall's humor. Gets his point across too.

That's the one
The batter was Alou, but I thought it was during the last Bay Bridge series.

Funny
Wouldn't you just love to be on the field for this stuff.  The players really llok like they are having fun.
