Open Thread: D-Rays vs. Angels

Alright, louismg did this last night so I figured I would do it tonight.  With our blowout of the Royals tonight, we're back within 1/2 of the Halos and have pushed our lead to 4 games over the Yanks in the WC.  With a D-Rays win this evening we'll have a share of the AL West lead for the first time in... awhile.

Lineups:

Tampa Bay:

Gathright
Crawford
Lugo
Cantu
Huff
Lee
Gomes
Hall
Gonzalez

SP: Hendrickson

Orange County:

Figgins
Cabrera
Rivera
Guerrero
Anderson
B. Molina
Kotchman
J. Molina
Kennedy

SP: Bootcheck

GO D-RAYS!  We want a share of 1st TONIGHT!!!

Living in SoCal sucks
Can't watch the A's or Rivercats unless it's a national telecast or when the A's play the Angels.

You can watch the River Cats game tonight
if you have a high-speed internet connection -- there's a free video broadcast of it available here.

Glad to help
I'm on the other side of the country, so I'm always on the lookout for chances to catch the boys.  :)

Ooo -- Rollie Fingers in the booth in the fourth!  All the more delightful.  I hope they talk about how Huston just surpassed his A's record for saves in a rookie season.  I would imagine so, since Huston saved some games in  the PCL championship for the River Cats last year.

We should do this every night so we don't clog the main thread with Halo updates.  Someone can start one tomorrow if neither of us can.

D-Backs update
Conor Jackson just his his 1st major league home run.  In 6 ML games, he's 4-12 with a homer, double, 2 RBI and 1/0 BB/K.  Boy would he look good in an A's uni.

Billy, bring Conor back to the East Bay!

Conor goes deep again
Hit his second homer of tonight's game and ML career.  What a night!

GO D-RAYS!!!!!!!

BTW, I'm also keeping an eye on the Rivercats game and this guy and girl (a couple?) were wearing AN t-shirts.  AN members, perhaps?

Right.... GO D-Rays.

GO A's!!!

Awesome
AN is everywhere!  Gotta love it.

We should invade Angel Stadium the last week of August for the 3-game series.  Imagine a whole section of A's fans chanting LET'S GO OAK-LAND!  And the flag bearers... that would be totally cool.

I've already got tickets to the September 1st game.  Will miss the other two b/c I will be out of town.

And they're threatening in the 3rd.  Runners on 2nd & 3rd with 1 out and the ever-dangerous Aubrey Huff at the dish.

Funny thing about tonight's RC battery
They were traded for each other earlier this year.  But Gregorio had some pre-existing injury, so the trade was voided and the A's took Ziegler back.  Then some weeks later, the A's acquired Gregorio again for cash, and here they are tonight.  Baseball is odd sometimes.

Man
I wonder whether Billy Beane and Bill Stoneman made those deals himself or whether they relegated that to their respective assistants.

by OaktownTribesman on Aug 6, 2005 8:24 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

It was weird
I was puzzled because the original trade happened right around when Rheinecker, Meyer, and Harden all went down with injuries.  I wonder if that had something to do with the trade being rescinded...but I'm kinda surprised the Angels gave the A's the man they wanted in the end.

by sarajune13 on Aug 6, 2005 8:37 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

It seems
Like it's the kind of deal Beane would do while sitting on the john or out golfing. Merely an afterthought.

Is that head-to-head?  If so, that's 3-3, right?  Is the second tiebreaker home record or record against division?
Andre Ethier: The One.

Actually...
They did use a tie-breaker in 2001 for the NL Central.  St Louis and Houston finished tied for first with 93-69 records.  However, they did not play a one-game playoff for the title because had they played it, the loser would have gotten the wild card anyway.  So, they used a head-to-head tiebreaker and gave the Cardinals the better position in the playoffs.

How 'bout we root for the Twins/Tribe to
overtake the Angels and Yanks and win the WC.  We win the WC with third best record overall.  And we play Chicago.

here's the plan
twins/tribe take the WC, play us in the first round, since we'll have the second best record by the end of the season.  We then get the White Sox in the ALCS.  And, uh, the Padres in the Series.
