Today's Oakland Tribune/Stadium

Has a front page article which discusses the new stadium, the fact that they are back to looking at having it by the Coliseum, a possible news conference next Friday and it takes major quotes from Blez's interview with Mr. Woolff.

Here's the link:

kudos to Blez
We're making news here, baby!!

But seriously it was a heck of a lot of work for him to not only arrange and conduct the interview, but then do all that transcribing. Which, as you can see, is fairly critical given the need to be totally accurate.

Blez-- you've done well. Not sure how this thing will play out, but my feeling is that Wolff is digging a line in the sand, and let's see if someone on the public side is willing to cross it.

Hire, Not Fire
Instead of all the foolish comments calling the A's to "Fire Ken Macha," we should start a campaign calling on the Chron or Trib to hire Blez. Has any local columnist or sports reporter remotely approached the superlative interviews conducted by the CEO of AN?

As for a stadium to be built ANYWHERE within the city of Oakland's boundaries, I refer you to Ignorance De La Fuente's blunt comment:

"I'm prepared to work with the A's and explore possibilities for sites, but I can't make a blanket statement that we are going to put land together for them," he said. "I want to be absolutely clear. It has to be their money. (Putting land together) does not mean it is their money."

In others for those who believe the A's will build a new stadium in Oakland, "Fogettaboutit!"

the minute Blez does that
is the minute these sources dry up. It is the forum, as well as the man, that is making these things happen.

I copied that same quote in order to paste it:
That is more proof that De La Fuente is a friggin road block to the stadium issue. he wants all of the available land to be developed by his buddies into condo/retail.

he is a very important cog in their wheel.

IDLF's comment would worry me
No major league ballpark, especially in Oakland, is going to be built entirely with private money. There's going to be some public share. Even SBC Park had some public share.

this is the trouble
with baseball teams and stadiums. Ideally, the fan base could just vote De La Fuente out of office if his policies were objectionable. The trouble is that most of a fan base does not vote for the city council of their team's cities. Teams draw fans from entire regions, but they are hosted only by one city. It is an imperfection that the sporting world has learned to live with, but a frustrating one at this moment.

Oakland
I really hope that the A's will STILL be staying in Oakland as much as possible. At least w/i Alameda county if they have to move.

ps. Move to San Jose? Pleaazeeee ... you're just getting soo annoying!

A's are never moving the SJ
unless they give up the FSN contract to be solely to the Gnats, which would mean no TV. (based sort of on the BWI thing, no?)

Not gunna happen.

If the A's do move out of Oakland, it won't be to SCC, and it won't be to Southern Alameda County (read: Fremont, near Pacific Commons) because the Gnats can block that too.
Technically, the Gnats could block the Estuary plan as well. I think the Gnats aren't that mean.

If the A's do move, it'll be to 1) about the same place, which IDLF does not want, obviously, or 2) north, closer to the Concord/Sacramento side of the world, and hopefully not 3) to Portland or Vegas.

let's go oakland [clapclap clapclapclap]

the a's fan lj community.

Comcast also has a sports channel in the Bay Area
Comcast is waiting FSN out so that they can bid on the A's, Giants, Warriors, Sharks, and college teams. That should happen around 2007, IIRC. So giving up FSN won't satiate the Giants, not in a newly competitive situation.
