angels pick up Jason Christansen

The Angels have picked up Jason Christansen from the Giants (who also dumped Deivi Cruz off to the Nationals). Their firesale is in full effect.

I doubt that this will have much impact down the stretch, although it is interesting that after several years the Angels want a loogy in their pen.

A's mash lefties. Scioscia is going to follow conventional baseball wisdom and go with lefty-lefty matchups against our lefties. Especially Chavez. And, proceed to get the Angels butts kicked.

Chavez .341/.447/.282 - .337/.487/.275
Kotsay .358/.435/.318 - .307/.397/.255
Johnson .400/.453/.293 - .387/.538/.317

If he brings a lefty in to face Kotsay or Chavez Scioscia is caving to the media who will rip him for not bringing in the lefty even though that is the correct move. Maybe Johnson makes sense although Johnson is hitting anyone left or right, and walks more vs lefties.

The lefty for Hatteberg or Swisher makes perfect sense.
