What's up my AN homies? After last night's beatdown of the Motown Tigers, can I get a Saarloos in the hizz-ouse" chant going here? That's what I'm talkin' 'bout. And mad props to my man Eric Chavez, - he's an OG Athletic, and now he's a papa, too. Someone holla at Diego for me!
Bad news for you homies, though. Rich Harden's got a strained lizz-at, meaning Johnny Cruise could get the call from Sacto. Still, poindexter Macha says Joe Kennedy might make the start - hey Macha, what's a homey got to do to make a start up in Oaktown?
Hardball Times: Ten Things I Didn't Know Last Week has mo' lizz-inks than Hampton in a smokehouse. The best one is this breakdown of what new-school ball fans don't know. You best step off, son.

Alright, homies. Your turn!

These are the current rookies on three teams in the AL West, each of whom would have factored into a list like Payn's 6 months ago ... frankly, our top prospects are doing what we want them to be doing.

I found our 2015 Starting Catcher
The whole thing isn't worth reading for someone without a lot of free time or perveted interest in Oregon high school sports. BUt here is the key tidbit:
"Beau Day, Centennial: American Legion Triple A baseball teams usually consist of players aged 16 to 19. But Day is 14 and hasn't yet played a day of high school ball. Still, Day made a statement with Centennial's top Legion team this summer. The catcher, who will be a freshman, hit .321 during the regular season on a team that reached the state tournament. "His maturity is way beyond his years," said Brent Child, who coaches Centennial's high school and Legion teams."
I hope Billy is reading this and putting him on the target board. :)

This year's incoming college class...
2. They never spent $0.50 a call to SportsPhone to find out what happened to said team on the West Coast.
We're talking $0.50 several times a game if was important and unfolding. Can you imagine paying 0.50 per refresh of Gameday? Yikes.
3. They never had to wait till Sunday to read the batting averages for all the league's players.
Wow I forgot how much I looked forward to looking at the huge tiny print list of batting averages and ERAs and other strikeout. You can believe too there was no OBP or OPS around.

Gary Gillete weighs in on A's starting staff
Oakland A's
Barry Zito (27 GS), Danny Haren (27), Joe Blanton (25), Kirk Saarloos (20), Rich Harden (19), Others (6 GS).
Zito
Strengths: At this point, just about everything. Not only have the Athletics' starters held enemy batsmen to a league-best .240 batting average and .306 OBP but Oakland also boasts the only AL starting staff that has held opposing hitters to a sub-.400 slugging percentage (.380). If those numbers hold for the rest of the season, they would be truly remarkable. The Athletics' rotation is impressively balanced, featuring both hard throwers and finesse pitchers with a veteran southpaw as the anchor. The staff's home/road performance is not skewed much in favor of the Mausoleum, either, showing only a 0.11 ERA differential.
Weaknesses: The only real problem with the Oakland rotation is the starters' inability to keep runners from stealing, which could be fatal in closely fought games. Larcenous baserunners have swiped 62 bases off the A's batteries this year, with only 14 caught stealing, though the guys behind the green masks must bear a lot of the responsibility.
On the intangible side of things, there is also a relative lack of experience. In the postseason, patient veteran lineups frequently can dismember young starters like Haren, Harden or Blanton. Of course, lineups full of disciplined power hitters frequently dismantle veteran starting pitchers -- but announcers and pundits are very fond of paying obeisance to "veteran leadership" and prone to expectorating I-told-you-so's like late summer showers when inexperienced young hurlers get lit up in October.
