Around SBN: Bracketology 2012: Duke Finally Steps Up To The No. 1 Line

Welcome Back Swisher.

Wow, after one game back the winning percentage of the A's winning with Swish in the lineup still looks like a good one. I know we have all been blown away with Dan Johnson's performance over the past month and have put him in the ROY race along with Swish and Street, but I think we might be seeing just how much Swish means to this lineup.
Ok, I know it was only the first game back and it was against the Royals who have not won a game since the Angels were located in the same city for more than one year. But he really seems to be the straw the stirs the bottom of the order drink. Sorry I couldn't resist that one. Without him there it seems to be a bit stagnent at the ass end of the order. Ellis is hitting well, but without Kendall moving him along or Kielty getting on ahead of him it is at a stand still.
I was a bit scared the first time I saw Swish last night with the high socks. He looked so skinny I was wondering if he had eaten at all while he was gone. Then I was worried it might take him a couple of days to get his timing back after not seeing a pitch for almost a week. But he was right on everything all night. Good sign.
I wonder if Jay Payton has to pay tax on Lima, because he owns him something fierce! Lima should just hit him when he faces him, because he can't do anything with him.
Anyways, let's hope the Royals continue to be the get well card for the A's this weekend.
I also want to say thanks to everybody who responded to the Rickey Henderson number retirement thought. I know it will happen, I just don't know when. Rest assured though, I will be there!
Go A's!!!

I missed the Rickey
Henderson number retirement thread--did Dave Stewart's name come up during that thread?  The thing is, I think they've already retired Stew's number--#34, also worn by Rolly Fingers.  They ought to come up with something, maybe retiring the same number twice, since Stew meant so much to Oakland.

Rickey will definitely get his # retired; but not yet, since he still might re-surface active in the major leagues.  I think he's like 2 homers away from 300.

Rickey back
I saw Rickey play this year in Phoenix in the GBL. He was talking about how he would love to come back to Oakland and finish up an Athletic. I think it might have been a possability at the begining of the season when it looked like the A's were going to be no where near a pennant race. But I don't see it happening now. He was having a hard time catching up to fastballs thrown by guys whom other teams had released from their low minor league teams in the GBL. I just pray baseball chooses to send him to Cooperstown in an A's hat.
Fingers umber is retired. I hadn't thought about that. They might have to retire it twice.

Rickey HR's
Rickey is 3 HR's short of 300 with 297 for his career.  I honestly don't think Rickey will be back in the Majors since he really can no longer hit major league pitching.  If I'm Beane I wouldn't sign him.

you may be righ
I recall seeing something about this probably on this site somewhere--that now he can't really catch up to Golden Baseball League pitching, so he wouldn't have a chance in the majors.  He needs some special Julio Franco medicine, I guess.

did anyone see at the game
swish had a batting average of 1.ooo.  i guess when someone in your family passes on they let you restart your season.  i don't know if he could win the ROY in that case.   lol
