Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Taking all bets!!

Now that we're so close to catching the Angels, I want to see if we can get a few guesses on when we'll catch them.  Heres the question:

On what date will we have a better record W-L percentage than the Angels?

Lets set some ground rules...

-Only one poster can bet on one date, so even if you guess tommorow, if your post is after someone who also said tommorow, then your guess does not count.  Of course tommorow is mathematically impossible, as we will at-best have the same record as them, not a better one.

-Guessing more than once is not allowed

-You cannot change your guess unless another person already guessed what you posted and you didn't see it.

-You cannot guess again even though your day has been eliminated: ie, tommorow comes and goes, even though you guessed tommorow you cannot guess again.

-The winner gets....something?  I don't know.

Since I started the diary, I am not going to guess.  Alright lets do it!  Give your answer in Month/Day/Year

[EDIT] For the huge pessimist out there, "Not this season" is a guess as well. But may your underwear be permanantly stained if you say that!

My shot in the dark
August/7th/2005 (Sunday)

I suspect
a little delayed gratification-- they have Baltimore and then TB, I think, to beat up on this week.

It'll be next tuesday. Captain Kirk on the mound. August 9, 2005-- 31 years and 1 day after OC native Dick "I am not a crook" Nixon resigned from office.

Aug. 6
Wanted to say the 7th but will go with Saturday August 6th

Aug 4
Baltimore rallies around a new locker room performance-enhancing drug of choice, snaps out of their 1-13 streak or whatever they have, while the A's continue to dominate.

the pi poll
I need to consult the banner from junior high math class that stretched along the length of the room with a value of pi as exact as any course I student would ever need to know...

course I
aka algebra, I don't know if Calif. or other states use the NY Board of Regents course I-IV system...

and while I'm providing clarifications of my state's high school educational system that no one cares about, I might as well elaborate on my prediction.  The A's juggernaut sweep the Twins, while Baltimore takes 2 of 3 from Anaheim, including a Bedard near no-hitter.  There.

Baltimore
You think they'll take 2/3 over Anaheim?  Anaheim have been slumping but they had some bad luck too.  Whereas imo, baltimore just flat out sucks and is getting worst.  Thats a bold prediction.

neither team is playing well
but yeah, I wouldn't take this to Vegas.  Baltimore won't get swept, though, I feel safe about that one.

I also need...
...a keyboard that replaces, eh, the rather useless ^ symbol (what, do we proofread papers for fun, Gateway?) with the pi symbol, just because the pi symbol is so awesome.  Good movie too.

You got the most optimistic date.
I like it.

Halos Heaven polls
I liked that they didn't even have an option for being in 2nd place on a date later than August 5th.  Their quaint little blog is already surrendering, that's what I like to see.  Could be because half the votes were cast by AN members too.

I like the poll on the home page also; even if Vlad having his 9th kid with a 7th woman is useful in helping him break out of his slump, it's worth it, because I would definitely be a fan of MLB having a son of Vlad on every roster.  The Son of Vlad policy would also help combat steroid use, because you don't need to juice to hit a 58-foot slider 400 feet.

Woof
I'm as excited as anyone about the A's resurgence, and the possibility of overtaking the Angels soon.

But even if the A's do take over first place, there is no guarantee we hold onto it.  The A's have a tougher September schedule than the Angels, and we're simply bound to run into a rough patch - especially with three pitchers whose arms have never pitched so many innings in the big leagues.

The Angels are in a slump, and the A's are 2001-hot, but I think it's more likely than not that this race goes down to the wire.
