It sounds kind of silly talking about a dramatic lineup change for a team winning 80% of their games, but it seems clear that Crosby in the 3 hole is a vacuum that has to be addressed. He has come up in key situation after key situation in the past 2 weeks and has done absolutely nothing. Fortunately for the A's he has been bailed out almost every time, but as the season wears on that is not likely to happen with this kind of regularity. Someone on AN today suggested Johnson but in my mind he is part of the reason for Chavez resurgence, he is protecting Chavez. Swisher comes to mind, he really seems to be a guy who responds to pressure well, and although he strikes out a lot more than I would like, he does seem to be there when we need him. I would like to see him up more with a key runner on third. Maybe he will pull a Crosby and K, I don't know, but Crosby is doing nothing there. Macha was quoted as saying he doesn't want to move Crosby down because of his psyche, who in the hell cares, a manager looks out for his team, not a player. Crosby is young, he will recover from it, and might get him going again, then he can get his spot back. From what I gather, Crosby is very intense and tries too hard, gets down on himself etc. I think he is remembering last Aug/Sept. when he slumped, kind of the reverse Chavez, and is pressing too much, it is Macha's job to alleviate that and help the team.
