Open Thread: Game 86 - A's at Chicago

Congratulations to the A's for securing Mark Kotsay through 2008.

Anyway, I'm kind of busy today, what with "Chez Nico II: The Extravaganza" and all, so I'm just pasting the preview from the whitesoxnation.com game thread, written by Chicago's excellent and professional broadcast team. See you after the game...

All right Sox, let's get `em today! Boy we sure got robbed last night by a bunch of bad calls and bloopers. But we have Buehrlsey going for us against a right-hander named Zitto I've never heard of, so we sure have the advantage there. As a special treat for the fans, there's a gold glove 3rd baseman playing in this series. And Eric Chavez is here, too. Oh ho ho ho ho! Hey, I think today's the day I'm finally going to get up the nerve to ask Crede out. Wish me luck, and go Soxies!!!

Starting lineups:

Kendall
Kotsay
Crosby
Chavez
Kielty
Byrnes
Swisher
Ginter
Ellis

Podsednik
Iguchi
Thomas
Konerko
Rowand
Dye
Widger
Ozuna
Uribe

Some right hander named Zito who they've never heard of?  Whoa.  Ok.

And they got screwed yesterday by a bunch of bad calls?  What did I miss?

That was a great intro - it made me actually check to see if there is a whitesoxnation.com (nope), and then laugh even harder.

Ginter?
We get no DJ or Hatty, but we get Ginter? Does Ginter have nude pictures of Macha or something that he's threatening him with or what?

And Swish, with his .170 average vs lefties.  I love Swish, but I don't like him getting every single start over DJ when a lefty starts, when there is no indication that he's a better option.  They've both got to learn to hit lefties.

Kots-YAY!
Okay, Kots has to have a good game today. It's required. Dude's got guaranteed bacon on the table for three years, he can relax and hit the heck outta the ball. So I'm calling it, he's gonna do well. If Hatty could hit the stitches outta the ball right after he got a contract, Kotsay damn well better do it too!

hooray for extensions!
as an a's fan, in a way we're always bracing for the worst. watching so many of "our guys" walk has been tough, but this year has actually been really great. billy locked up croz and harden early, and now this kots extension makes us all so happy.

now hopefully kots can get out of this mini slump he's in! the best thing about kots is that he may not be contributing offensively but he's still winning games with his glove.

Did anyone just hear Hawk?
I like Hawk and all but.....................

He just said, "If you tell me on January 3rd that we would be on our last series with Oakland and still be 28 games over .500, i would have said Give it too me!"
Ok...? Not only is NOT January, Its NOT even the 3rd of the month. ALSO we are 30 games over .500.........WOW.......Hawk was just drinking a LITTLE too much appearantly..........

I don't listen to Hawk
He makes my ears bleed, and I don't like that.

Gosh...
The A's really get to him, don't they?

By the way, not many of us here can stand Hawk...but then, I figure that's the way all non-White Sox fans feel. Not really thrilled at our team being called "bad guys."

I'm being very diplomatic... :)

My brother hates Buerhle
so he's rooting for the A's, even though he's a Giants fan. Anyway he's ripping into Chavez for his strikeout, saying "he's ok, but he'll never be one of the premiere players" etc etc. Just like Zito has sucked for most of this year. Riiight.

Darn.  That's one thing we won't see much while Kendall's here.

2 times Zito should have been out of the inning.  That 3-2 was a strike.

Well.
The upside -- Zito's ERA is now below 4!
The downside -- 56 pitches through 3 is pretty ugly. I suppose that's the one good think about the ASG, our bullpen boys may need some rest by the end of this weekend.
