Around SBN: Dog Football! Which Breeds Are Best Suited For The Gridiron?

Brief Observations from BJ/A's game

I was sitting 16 rows up and just to the right of the 1st base bag. I had mucho A's fans around me and one row down from me a dude had an awesome Kotsay road uni on and we were doing our best to piss off the home crowd.

thoughts:

  1. Haren's control was off but he battled all night. I liked how he kept coming after hitters. He's a warrior.
  2. Macha's use of the bullpen is puzzling. Rincon's homer to Hudson was inexcusable. Hudson is weak batting from the right side and Rincon just groved one high and down the middle. This not only rattled Rincon but it seemed to rattle Macha. Kenny immediately goes to Calero too soon which caused him to bring out Street for 5 outs. Why not use Duke in the the 7th, Calero in the 8th and Street for the 9th?
  3. Street is VERY impressive. They had him on the big screen coming out of the BP and it looked like he was hyperventilating...but when he got on the rubber he was dynamite! Oh, to be 21 again!
  4. Crosby's in-side-the-parker was awesome. When Wash was wavin' him around all the A's fans around me were goin' nuts. Crosby had a big game, hitting the ball with authority and using the whole field.
  5. Why, why, why, why didn't Scoot eat that ball in the 9th? He had NO chance of making that DP, NONE. I was able to see the play develop and started screaming "eat it, eat it, eat it" and then Scoot almost threw the ball to me in the 16th row. Scoot had a tough game at the plate and in the field.
I'm tired this morning....but went to bed with a grin on my face.

Go A's!

Are you going ot be there tonight
I will be in section 115, row 21 tonight.

Scoot got rocked by gross on that slide.  Secondbasemen are in a position to get blindsided a lot and somebody has to be telling him if he has a chance to get the runner at one.

And I was one of the A's fans going nuts for crosby's inside the park job.

every A's pitcher except Duke
coughed up the lead last night. And Calero also gave up a homer, on a night when the ball was jumping for both teams. So why pick on Rincon?

funny you mention duke...
...when he started laying out that big hook all the BJ fans around me were going "ohhhhhh" and all us a's fans were sittin' back grinnin'... that curveball is deadly.

I like the Duke
and the way he has played for the A's this year is pretty inspiring.

true, about gross' slide
being high with his feet high but from where i was sitting (right behind 1st and to the right) the hit was somewhat soft and the play was slow to develop and i just thought Scoot had no chance to make that play. Oh well, it added about 45-55 minutes to my night and i got home way too late-but a win is a win.

i looked for you in 121 (i think you said) but no luck. i can't go tonight-my son has a soccor game plus i'm trying to get out of a 7 PM meeting on thursday....hope to see you there on thursday! i'ii be wearing my "wear it" black t..."back in black" i say!

Glad
To hear the perspective of someone who saw the game, instead of just reading it on gameday.

"Street is VERY impressive. They had him on the big screen coming out of the BP and it looked like he was hyperventilating...but when he got on the rubber he was dynamite! Oh, to be 21 again!"

Blown save and he's still dynamite. I'll take it. :)

The 9th inning play was puzzling on gameday even. Sigh.

Crosby seems to be having a lot of those games lately, hitting the ball seemingly wherever he wants. It is so awesome to see! His arm is something else, too.

Well, thanks for your perspective!! :) Hope you go back tonight and have fun!

re: street
i was recalling nico's previous post last night about street's delivery and its true-he steps to his left side in his windup-not behind the rubber. from what they had on the radar gun he was throwing 91-93 on the fastball with a nasty slider. he gave up those two hits in the 9th after getting 2 strikes on both hitters. if not for that error, street was out of that inning no problem. v. wells (a dead fastball hitter) was late on street and street was definitely fooling hitters. very impressive.

If you use Duke in the 7th...
You also run him up there in the 8th and have Street take the 9th.  Remember he is the LONG reliever 2 innings is standard fare for him.
