Open Thread: Game 103 - A's vs. Tigers

The A's and Barry Zito with a 9-8 record and a 3.59 ERA take on the Tigers and Nate Robertson with a 5-8 record and a 3.52 ERA.

The Tigers are a great hitting ballclub, especially with Ordonez in that lineup.  At one point last night, I looked at Gameday and the top six hitters in the Tigers lineup were all above a .300 batting average.  So Zito will have his hands full for sure.

I have to run out for a while, but I'm going to be listening to the game on the radio.  I'll open a couple of extra threads for your use.

By the way, here is this week's series look-alike...Chris Shelton and Sloth from Goonies.  Either that or Alfred E. Newman.  I bet his teammates have already figured that one out.

LET'S GO A'S!!!!!!! Starting lineups:

Polanco
Guillen
Shelton
Ordonez
White
Rodriguez
Young
Inge
Logan

Kendall
Ellis
Crosby
Chavez
Payton
Johnson
Swisher
Hatteberg (DH)
M. Scutaro (LF)

Oh man!

That has to be the funniest thing Ive seen on here in awhile.

No coverage on MLB extra innings today, stupid FOX forces MLB to only allow their game on.

The point is
you go there for the special day game in the Bay Area.

Really Nice Weather.

Funny how Fox owns Saturday daytime and ESPN owns Sunday Night.

At least the Sunday night game...
...is the only one going on at the time. Fox blocks all games from 1 p.m.-7 p.m. ET (10 a.m.-4 p.m. PT)

On the 'celebration thread'...
I keep trying to post a link and either getting the wrong one or finding out my link has errors....argh....I need A's baseball.

Chris Shelton...
watching him last night on TV, I had to say, "Well, our rookies are better-looking than their rookies." Which got my 14 year old sister started on an analysis of the appearance of every A's player (including some former ones): hot (reserved for Mulder only, in her opinion), cute, in the middle, and ugly. Her ugly was pretty harsh though...

lol
who did she think was ugly? My 19 year old sister thinks almost all of the A's are ugly.

by Squeaky on Jul 30, 2005 12:04 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Well...
She's always had some sort of bias against Zito, so he wins the "most ugly" title in her opinion. She thinks Huston is "ok," Harden's "sort of cute," Crosby's "not cute," and I think she might have called Ellis ugly. Swisher and Ginter, "cute in a puppy-dog sort of way." We ended up deciding that our definitions of ugly were rather different, because mine refers only to the Juan Cruz/Marquis Grissom-type. I think most of the A's are pretty good-looking, but it could just be because I watch them all the time and am biased... heh. :)

Harden and Huston
are "kind of cute' in my sister's opinion, Chavvy is ugly, along with Zito...not sure about Crosby. probably same. Danny Haren is 'incredibly ugly', not just 'ugly'.

by Squeaky on Jul 30, 2005 12:15 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Forgot about Haren...
also one of the ugliest, according to her. I just said that he looks high in pretty much whatever pictures I see of him, so that doesn't really work in his favor.

by LoveThemAs on Jul 30, 2005 12:23 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I think...
he looks either,
A) deranged,
B) like a fish (cuz he never closes his mouth),
or C) sort of pretty.

by Squeaky on Jul 30, 2005 12:30 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

VERY yummy.
Haren is hot. With beautiful eyes. The stoner look he has is hilarious, though.

They're good-lookin'!
Man. I don't get how some gals don't think most of the team is good-looking, it just boggles my mind. I mean, Crosby's not cute in my mind -- way too manly to be cute, more like 'studly'. :-)

Seeing Zito labelled as 'most ugly' by anyone makes me a little sad. Poor guys!

Oh well. I even think Hatty's kinda hot, so I think I've got some definite bias. :-)

by Kyli on Jul 30, 2005 12:37 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

For the past three years
I've tried to convince her that Zito isn't ugly and that he isn't a horrible pitcher. Alas, some people just are blind when it comes to certain subjects (myself included...). I think it all goes back to her little crush on Mulder-- she probably thinks he was stealing some of her guy's spotlight.

And Hatty isn't actually that bad, when he's in his street clothes... :)

means Scutaro will need to scooter his way about the outfield.

Byrnes, hands down.

Against a lefty,
definitely Byrnesy. Against a righty, might be worth it to have Scooter--he might not do too bad in LF and he actually hit RHP perfectly decently.
