Torii Hunter

Kind of morbid, but ESPN just put out that Torii Hunter tore a tendon, possibly his Achilles, in his left ankle and will miss at least the month of August.  This is obviously a blow to the Twins hopes of chasing down the wild card.  Even though he's had an off year offensively, no one on the team can replace his defense in CF.  Do you think the Twins will now make a serious run at Mike Cameron?  Or do they stand pat and hope for the best?  This could also impact that ginormous Ramirez trade being talked about.  Anything that gets him out of the AL (and if he is going to the Mets, out of contention) is fine by me.  I can't be happy about this b/c he got hurt, but this will seriously hamper Minnesota's ability to challenge for the Wild Card.

I agree
I don't see the Twins going after Cameron.  Maybe Winn, even though he can't play CF very well.

they already have
jones, stewart and ford for the outfield. so they are set there but i do think they need another bat if they want to get anywhere

Devastating
I may regret these words after next week's series, but I really think they are now longshots for the WC, and our real competition will come from the Bos-NY loser-- and both those teams have huge problems.

Our boys just need to keep on keeping on. A mixed bag night with Harden's ineffectiveness and Kielty's injury.

Sad to see
Much as I want the A's to head off the Twins, Torii Hunter is one of the true joys to watch play.  I'd have loved to see him roaming CF on AN day.

I agree
Hunter is fun to watch.

I'm sorry he's out, too
It's a huge blow to the Twins because they already lack power and besides being a GG OFer, "Tor the third" is one of their few real power threats. Next to Santana, probably the guy they could least afford to lose. Fortuitous timing for the A's, for sure.

really sad
Torri Hunter is probably my favorite player outside the A's so it's really sad to see him get hurt.  You have to respect his hustle and defense out in center.  I don't expect the Twins to do much this trade deadline outside the possible Mueller trade.

Classy comments
Good to see respect and admiration for the enemy's warriors, rather than adolescent gloating over their misfortune. Nice job, one and all.

Plus, if we gloat about it, then A's lose
that's instant karma.

The Homerdome has always be an issue for the A's anyway.   See 2002 playoffs, end of 20 game winning streak, etc.

Halliday
I thought the same thing about Toronto when Halliday went down. But they haven't gone anywhere and just swept the Angels. Halliday is due back soon so that will give them a lift. In Toronto they really think that if there is one year they can win the division it is this year with the Sox and yanks having relatively poor years.

So don't be too wuick to dismiss the Twins.
