Blez in the news!

Today's Sac Bee:  http://www.sacbee.com/content/sports/baseball/oak_athletics/story/13316365p-14158476c.html

Other than the Blez quotation at the end, this article kind of got me thinking about the A's moving to Sacto.  I know this has been hashed and rehashed several times, but I'm now beginning to wonder if the plans for a smaller stadium, Wolff citing the lack of A's corporate support as a factor in that move (one of the arguments against moving the team was the lack of large corporations in Sacramento), and the related comments about wanting to expand the season ticket base are preludes to an A's move in the near future.  Thoughts?

The cookie cutter argument
I find it interesting how similar columns from Mark Purdy of the Merc and Marcus Breton of the Bee are. It's basically the same type of argument. One could almost switch San Jose and Sacramento between the two pieces and not notice the difference.

Wolff's comments on the smaller stadium are certain to give hope to numerous cities. The folks in Portland think it's a fantastic concept. It would work in Las Vegas and San Jose as well. Still, all of these other cities have to wait it out. Wolff's official position still remains, "Don't call us. We'll call you."

Vegas will never happen.
Not as long as:
  1. The AAA Vegas '51's can't sell more than 2500 tickets per game.
  2. Oscar 'Mob Lawyer' Goodman remains mayor of Clark County, and refuses to allow a stadium to be built within ten miles of the Strip.
  3. The idea of a stadium attached to a casino remains a pairing that nobody in the Commissioner's Office wants to embrace.

Ticket sales
I think HollywoodOZ hit the nail on the head.  No matter what anyone says baseball doesn't sell in Las Vegas.  When the A's moved their first 6 games of the 1996 season to Las Vegas not one of the games sold out (in a 9K+ seat stadium).  This was a special event, not a season long thing.  So how do they expect to sell 30K+ tickets every night if they can't even get 9K to go to a game in April when the weather is actually fairly nice.

Breton is terrible
Those of us who live in Sacramento understand Breton's game: find any and every injustice in sports and write about it 4 times a week.  He literally writes NOTHING positive about anything.  It's just bitch, bitch, bitch.

The fact that he's resorted to complaining about Oakland's lack of attendance tells me he's running out of ideas.

didn't he write a book about Tejada

BASEBALL PLAYER KIDNAPPING RING UNCOVERED!!!!!

Members of the online community athleticnation.com were found to be holding 19 current and former Oakland Athletics hostage.  Tyler Blezinski, the site's operator, is being held as a material witnedd

Shouldn't that read "material witless"?

Breton should move too
He should move his mouth around to the backside of a horse so he can taste some of what he's spewing.

Here's an idea, every time a team drops into the bottom 3 or 4 teams in attendance they should be moved. And if the new home doesn't support them, move 'em again. We could just play a giant game of musical stadiums. OR here's an even worse idea, just have them divide their home games between Oakland, San Jose, Sacramento and Vegas. Whichever venue delivers the highest attendance will be rewarded with a proportionally higher number of games the next season.

Can I have my own sports column now?
