I think
A sound bite is worth a thousand lines-- a Beane Byte is worth a million. Give the guy a break.

thanks, that was great.

Great lines
From Krug, the homer: "Hey, I like rooting for our old, decrepid, worse tomorrow than we are today guys."

And from Billy:  "Rooting for the A's is more fun, its like choosing between the Ramones and the BeeGees, A's fans will go with the Ramones."

I love it.

In complete agreement
In the another diary there was a article abot the Hatteberg's music (plays the guitar) and it mentioned that Beane is a punk-rock oficianado.

thank you, thank you, thank you
Living in China, downloaded and listened, can't thank you enough.  BB sure sounds like no trade of any significance which is good news to hear but god we need a DH.  He did say Kots will start Sat. for sure, maybe Friday, no big deal according to BB.  He also made it sound like Kennedy is going nowhere.

by china bob on Jul 27, 2005 9:58 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

where in china do you live?
Although I am up in Eureka, I've been to China several times to adopt my four kids..so I've been to Chengdu, Changsha, Nanchang, Beijing, & Guangzhou....

If I may ask, what do you do? I'd love to live in China...

This is my first post on AN, I've been a lurker for awhile and love the site....

We will be down for the sunday Kendall bobblehead day in section 316, row fourteen...I'd love to meet some AN members...My kids, ages 8,6, 3 & 3  are all big A's fans, moreso this year, as we are driving down for all the bobblehead games...it really got the two older ones into the A's, especially after putting them on their shelves. Sounds like a silly tradition, but my kids are so into it....

Best,
Paul Rodrigues

"Kennedy is going nowhere"--
I've been saying that for YEARS.

Kennedy
I'm not sure I agree with "going nowhere".  I definitely noticed that Beane was talking up Kennedy, but it may have been to help boost his confidence on the team, or it may have been to make him look more appealing to other teams for trade.

Most likely it was both.  Whether Kennedy is traded no doubt depends on what is offered for him. Talking him up helps whether we keep him or not.

Thank you
Living far from home, that was great. That kind of love I miss oh so dearly.

I found it interesting that right of the bat when Krueg said he felt the hitting was the reason for the success, Beane said:

"The pitching has been overshadowed. Zito has been so dominant, and Rich has been good too."

Just shows you how much BB believes in Zito, and I'm so glad he kept him. Good stuff.

Chick Talk?
Larry: "Duke to Street would be automatic as it is right now...These are two of the hottest guys in baseball"

you be the judge.

Change is for the better. For both the A's and in life.

Billy makes me melt inside.
"All part of the plan." Hell yeah it was.

Larry is SO RIGHT. Beane should wear the red contacts. Who would say no to him if he looks like 'no' will result in him SUCKING YOUR SOUL?

I will now think of Patrick Duffy when I think of Swisher, and that scares me.

Thank you so much for posting that, it was fun to listen to!

also worth noting:
beane pretty much says there will be no more "buying" (at least of big ticket items) by the a's as this is not a buyer's market.

sounds like those who created the fifty "let's get dunn" diaries don't quite understand how billy works yet.

cutthemullet, on the other hand, had it right in his "Let's be sellers" diary:

good job, dude!

Two Words...
...Jermaine Dye

We'll see if Billy has learned his lesson or not.

Let's Go Oak-Land!

by Colorado Fan on Jul 28, 2005 11:51 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Dye
Are you saying the trade to get him was a mistake?  He put us over the hump in the 2nd half.  I think at one point he had like 60 RBI's in the first 60 games he played for the A's.  It was a fantastic trade.  The problem was the contract after the broken leg.  And what do you know...he's back playing great ball this year.  Not that I expected it to happen, but having him in right for this year's team would look pretty nice right now (put Swish in either left or 1B).

by kcfries on Jul 28, 2005 12:43 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

exactly
The trade was brilliant.

The contract-- partic. as it came after Dye had shattered his leg in 3 places-- much less so. I always felt it was a bit of a desperation move since Izzy, G and damon had all left town.

I listened to that interview...
Not sure if the soundbite has it but Larry was talking crazy talk before the interview.  He was asking the audience whether they, as giants fans, would be willing to give up rights to the San Jose area in exchange for every A's Player AND Billy Bean.  He said of course it wasn't in the ream of reality but he was just putting out there.

by DaThirdDeck on Jul 28, 2005 10:08 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I heard that...
It was a good show... Kreuger talking about how he's a lifelong Giants fan but if the A's get Adam Dunn or Austin Kearns he's buying tickets to A's games and getting his son an A's hat... Hilarious.

more lk comments:
that last exchange between Beane and Krueger was hilarious:

Billy Beane: "....it's way cooler to be an a's fan"

Larry Krueger: "....but i like our old decripity eroding worse tomorrow then today team"

Larry of course was talking about his favorite team, the Giants!

I think Larry...
Without coming out and saying it, was expressing Gnats feelings of jealousy for the A's current and past success, not to mention how bright the future looks.  I gotta wear shades..

LOL.
That was awesome. Beane seems like the type of GM I'd love to go kick back and have a beer with. He knows what's cool.

Thanks for the link gdubb
I also downloaded the interview.  Great listening to Billy, both his words, and sort of reading between his "words" as we all do.

I think he isn't pursuing, or even cultivating, any additional trades before midnight Saturday, but he is surely keeping his phone line open for a trade he can't resist.
