Around SBN: The Ten Worst Swings Of The 2011 Season

Swisher Cocky?... Chavez a leader?

From what I've noticed this year, Swish has this arrogance to him.  The way he walks, the way he he hits himself on the chest after a HR, his mouth.. lol.  I mean I love the guy, he gives great interviews, and will be a great player, but has anybody else noticed his little too-much swagger as a rookie or is it just me?  and... it seems like Chavvy is taking a leadership role on the team.  HONESTLY!.., for example, he won't go sit at the end of the dugout anymore, he actually argues with the umps now (especially tonight - never seen Chavvy so animated), he has this determined look on his face, and it was his on the bus meeting that turned things around for us.  Has anyone else noticed this either?

swish hits himself on his chest after a HR ..
because he tattooed his grandmother's name to his chest and he does it for her after those hits.

I am even coming around on chavez
That arguing is big and I am have been pumped to see him at least around people in the dugout.

Will it last. I hope if his hitting goes his heart does not go with it.

I like that our team is usually
not the arguing type but I like to see SOME fire and I was happy to see Chavy argue with the ump, which sounds weird. Though he shouldn't have backed out on that pitch...

From what I've heard, Chavez IS a leader, whether or not we see it. I can totally appreciate that. He's a leader for them behind the scenes and with his playing. Good enough for me.

That is Swishers style. He has his Grandma's name tattooed on his chest so he does that for her. Check out the latest issue of Athletics magazine. There's a good article on Swisher and the guys have definitely been taking him down a notch, or at least  trying to!

Swish
yeah, swish WAS pretty over-confident (aka cocky) in the beginning but he's definitely toned it down after some of the veterans talked to him.

and i agree, it was nice to see chavvy fired up about that strikeout tonight. very rare to see him argue a call.

On another note...
I know as A's fans, we all hate the Angels.. but I gotta give Scioscia credit, he's a good manager.  Their Lineup isnt up there with the Rangers, Red Sox, or Yankees, but they know how to keep the pressure on.  And their bullpen is great.  They also win quietly, they don't show up teams or do anything out of the ordinary.  Having said that, I freakin hate losing to them.  But I gotta admit, in last years ALDS, i wanted to them to beat the hell out of the Red Sox.

Cocky...
yes, I'd say so. But he is a young guy, and maturity comes with age. Swish seems like a very nice guy, however, after hearing all his interviews. Seeing Chavy so fired up after that frankly awful strikeout call was great, albeit strange coming from him. Hopefully that fire will fuel some great hits! I think that Chavy has always been a leader. Heck, the team is so young, anyone over the age of 25 can be considered a leader. :)

In Swisher's
ABs, his decisions, his swagger, you can see that he is the most immature of all the A's young players, which is why I expect he will be among the slowest to emerge as a consistent player. DJ, and Ellis before him, offer good contrasts both in levels of maturity and the accompanying ability to start their careers as more consistently productive players. Swisher is talented, but very raw.
