Blez: AN and SportsBlogs suggestions

Blez, I hope you don't mind me putting together a small list of quirks about AN. :)

Star-divide

Here's my list:

  • Could we make a single logon for all the SportsBlog sites? I'd love to post on the other sites but I don't feel like making 32 seperate accounts.
  • I'd like to see a menu running across the top of the page. Maybe something that lists the other SportsBlogs up there so I don't have to scroll down so far to click on them, and other information as well (maybe player or team info, or news snippets or whatever.)
  • Could a listing of Diaries appear on the right when I'm viewing a diary? I just dislike having to return to the main page to find another diary to click on.

I especially agree with numbers 1 and 3.  The problem with having a single logon as I see it is the potential for trolls to get out of hand.  But I often find myself wanting to post on other sites.  The only ones with which I have accounts are AN, minorleagueball, and Beyond the Boxscore.

good ideas
I like them. I agree trolls might get out of hand, but I would occasionally like to post elsewhere.

NO single login
The friggin trolls would KILL US!!!!

I would kill other sites when I was in a bad mood.

Like the need to register keeps me from going over to Angels site and ranting on a whim.

No. 1
See, I totally disagree with this one. It is annoying that we have to sign up for the other sites, but having to register SERIOUSLY discourages trolls. And thats more important to me. I think we'd find it really annoying if whatever team we're playings fans were constantly on the game thread.

Yes, but...
...if people actually used the ratings, then you could troll-rate people who do that, and their troll-status would follow them across the system. That would mean their posts would be hidden at a certain point, and their accounts for their home-blog would be tarnished as a result.

I like the single login option a lot, because it would encourage those of us who aren't trolls (by far the majority) to go to other SB blogs, and that in turn would bolster the community as a whole.

Remember, whatever keeps trolls out, also keeps good users out.

trolls bad, four legs good
I like the difficulty of crossposting. I agree with others above... it's completely worth it to me to avoid trollage. Can you imagine the annoying crap between Halofolks and AN this week?

Other misc suggestion: restrict people to one diary a day of a certain hefty amount. OR, people can post all the diaries they want but only one per day is posted to the front page, of a certain size...  (not trying to point to finger at any one in particular)

Good one
I like the one diary a day idea, maybe two would be better, but anything to slow the number of diaries would be something to consider.  Knowing that they might not get to post any more diaries would make people look a little closer to see if they're posting a duplicate diary.

seriously...
I was going through my unread diaries today, and every time I refreshed the home page (about once every 2-3 mins) there was a new diary up...and this continued for like 5 times!  A way to limit it would be nice...if possible (which I dont know enough about computers or anything to know if it is even possible).

I still like the idea of having an interactive live map of the park or permanent listing for where ANers will be sitting during games at the Mac.  I think that would be wonderful to have a place to go get this info instead of a new diary every time that gets pushed to the bottom in half an hr.

This is another example
of what Zero and other have been complaining about with diary space and duration in recents.  The complaint box for your suggestions is:

Irony:
Since Blez is away until Wednesday, he probably won't see your suggestions about how to stop diaries from getting pushed down so fast...because by the time he is back, this diary will be pushed down!

Buuuaahhhhh!!!!

AN Diary Stats
Number of user-posted diaries in recent days:

7/14  27
7/15  29
7/16 (wknd)  13
7/17 (wknd)  12
7/18  39!

by ArakSOT on Jul 19, 2005 12:05 PM PDT reply actions

Wow
39 yesterday!?!  I went back and checked the recent diary list and noticed all the diaries I never saw, and I've got my settings set to show 20 diaries on the main page.  Something definitely needs to be done to curb the number of diaries because self restraint doesn't seem to be an option for some people.

I concur.
Excuse me while I open a new diary on this topic.

Well see...
I was without internet for like a week, so I came back with so much to say, which led to like... 5 of my diaries
