Around SBN: SB Nation NBA Power Rankings for Week 2

The not-so-distant future

Like many of you, I believe the A's have a better than average shot at making the playoffs THIS YEAR. But like Billy Beane, I'm even more excited for 2006, when I think the A's are the early favorite for World Series Champs.

Think about it...

-A young rotation, one of the top 5 (top 3?) in all of baseball without question

-A nucleus of talented position players at 3-4-5 in the batting order (Crosby, Chavez, DJ), all sporting high OBPs and relatively low salaries

-A bullpen with the best young closer in baseball, numerous talented set-up men, and strong support from the minor league system

-One man, one desire...Daric Barton is the A's DH, fall 2006

The A's have it all, and they have it all CHEAPLY. If they don't win a World Series before the end of the decade, I will be stunned.

My question to you is,

I'm gonna go balls out
and say this year, baby.  Wildcards always win now, apparently.
Change is for the better. For both the A's and in life.

My reasoning
I think the A's will win next year rather than this year because of the expected increase in production from Nick Swisher, the young A's starters, Dan Johnson, and whatever rookies and or free agents are added to the team.
We have, I fear, confused power with greatness.

I wish you could vote
for more than one.  I'd say 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2010.

"I think there's some closet sickos on this team, just waiting to bust out. Even Huston (Street); you can't be a closer and not be a little off." Zito said.
