Casa de batgirl: You're invited!

WHO:  You, silly!
WHAT:  Casa de batgirl
WHEN:  Saturday, August 6th, 2 pm
WHERE:  batgirl's house, silly!
WHY:  To gather with other ANers to watch the A's kick some Royals tail

Nico has been so nice to host us twice, and I think it's time we gave him a break.  So, come one, come as many as will fit, to Casa de batgirl for an afternoon of food and A's watching.  I live up on the hill in Berkeley.  Although the BART station is a bit of a walk, there should be no problem sending a car down to pick up any  BART riders to shuttle up to my house.

I thought Chez Nico II was particularly fun as we had time to hang out and chat prior to the game, so I'll propose a similar set up:  food from 2-4, first pitch 4:10.  I'm undecided yet what to do about food, but the BBQ was great and I imagine we'll go that route.  More to follow.

If you are interested in attending, email me at batgirlAN@hotmail.com and be sure to include your user name.  I'll follow up with you to give directions and additional information.  All are welcome, but I may need to limit it if we seem to be getting too many people to fit in my living room.

Hope to see you there!  We'll get that elusive photo of Melody yet!

are there copyright issues
preventing you from calling it The Batcave?

At some point, we have to count the wounded and say, "At what cost?" At what cost, indeed.

ps. I'll be out of town. I'm very sad I'll miss Chez Batcave I.  But we'll probably catch you at AN Day Reloaded.

I'm going to be honest here
and admit that I know next to nothing about the actual "Batgirl."  I had thought about calling it the batcave, but then I thought there's a good chance she doesn't even have a batcave, and all of the comics fans will jump all over me.  I didn't want this to spiral into my most embarassing blog moment since being called "fatgirl" by some trolls.

I went with "casa de" to try and keep with the international flavor, and I didn't want to rip off too many of Nico's ideas.

Regarding seeing you at AN day, I certainly hope so!

geek test
which I am clearly about to fail.

I did a little research and found

Eventually Batman told Batgirl the secret of his dual identity and granted her free access to the Batcave and all its technology. The Batcomputer quickly became her domain and now she even surpasses Batman, Robin and Nightwing in cyber-expertise.

Presumably, the Batcomputer is set to refresh AN once every five seconds.

And anyone you trolls on Batgirl will face the wrath of the Batbat and the angry Apricot Gang.

They'll be washing goop out of their hair for days. Grrr.

thanks for the batprimer
So THAT'S what that thing in my closet is for!

If I now surpass Batman, Robin and Nightwing in cyber-expertise, that means that they don't know how to post pictures or provide a link through a highlighted word either.  I hope we won't be having to fight any cyber-crime.

Batgirl
in her "real life" is a librarian, I believe? These days, that would fit in with the cyber-expertise.

oh well
sounds like another fun time, but unfortunately this event coincides with my taking of my second portion of the ARE (architectural registration exam).  so think of me sitting in the testing center freaking out while you all enjoy the BBQ.
i'm sorry everybody, but i think macha is a good manager.

by JMC on Jul 12, 2005 3:06 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Sure
but think about in fifty years when you're retired and enjoying BBQ while hosting AN Day at the JMC Palace(which you designed yourself, being an architect and all) while we're sitting in the Social Security Center freaking out while trying to get a check so we can buy some cat food for our dinner, all because we spent our prime years partying at A's games while you were studying to become an architecturist.

Mmmmmm......Little Friskies

Picker of Nits since '63. Or so I thought until I discovered AN. Now I feel like a nitpiker.

ARE
JMC, what division(s) are you taking? I passed the ARE back in '00. It can't go any worse than when I took the building graphic portion... the computer crashed in the middle of the exam. The only problem was that NCARB registered the crash as me not completing the exam and it took 2 months to straighten the mess out.
Best of luck, I got my fingers crossed for you. If you need any friendly advice, feel free to drop me a line.

THANKS
the only division i've passed so far is pre-design.  i'm looking to knock out general structures and lateral forces next as i'm expecting to have the most difficulty with those.  should i fail either than i can spend my 6 mont waiting period taking some of the other portions.

i'm sure all you other ANers are interested in all that.

the JMC palace?  i'd settle for the JMC 2 bedroom bungalow in temescal, with a garage converted into a wood shop.

i'm sorry everybody, but i think macha is a good manager.

Kick down with the answers!
Now if it were only that easy.  Although I am not going to worry about the exams until after I actually get my BArch from Cal Poly (SLO) this upcoming school year.

Hey Casey...
What's your thesis going to be? Good luck to you for the upcoming year.
If you or JMC feel the need for some advice from a guy that's been there, just drop me a line. Us architecture type A's fans gotta stick together.

arch. history
I always got a kick out of the fact that our stadium is called the Coliseum.  Perhaps the new one will be the Oakland Pantheon.

Good luck Casey.  I graduated from RISD in '98.  The first years out of school are very enjoyable, you remember what sleep is like.

i'm sorry everybody, but i think macha is a good manager.

Sleep...
I've never done a work related all-nighter since I graduated (Montana State '95)... but my addiction to caffeine is still as strong. It's the only thing that keeps me going while writing specs.

I will be there,
if only to experience what it's like to be a guest at one of these thangs. And to give Forrest a hard time (I have a job, but that's my hobby).

Casa de batgirl...Hmm...Sounds like an event that needs a "Yankees pinata" to make it complete... :--}

whose team practices outdoors, my team was once victim of a "drive by fruiting," but we weren't graped; lemoned, I think.

Sounds fun!
I'm gonna do my best to make it to this one.  I have to drive from San Jose to Davis that day anyways, so I figure I can take a slight detour through Berkeley to watch the A's win!
