Austin Kearns
With all the talk of Austin Kearns I thought this would be very interesting to AN.
I live in Kansas City and get the KC Star - it appears the Reds were asking for Greinke and Affeldt in exchange for Kearns. The Royals rejected it....
From the article...
The Royals' top priority remains a young, power-hitting corner outfielder, but they continue to reject any proposal that requires them to surrender struggling right-hander Zack Greinke in return.
Cincinnati, at one point, sought Greinke and Affeldt in return for outfielder Austin Kearns even after demoting Kearns to the minors.
-------------------------
The question posed to AN --- I think we would have a very good chance at getting Kearns if that is what Cincinnati was asking from KC.
Which players would we offer in place of Greinke/Affeldt if we were serious about Kearns?

The Reds are trying to sweep 2003-04 Austin Kearns under the rug and pretend their dealing 2002 Austin Kearns. Unfortunately for them, all he's shown over the last two years is an inability to stay healthy and an inability to hit when he is healthy.
I wouldn't give up anything more than a AAA starter and maybe a low-level 1B for him. Asking for Grienke (or, in our case, asking for Harden) is outrageous for a guy who hasn't put up "slugger" numbers since 2002.
Man alive!
The Royals are to send two major leaguers to the Reds for a minor leaguer. No thanks. The Reds management is incredibly stupid to demote Kearns, drop his value, and then try to ask the farm of other teams for this guy. Man!
I'd take Kearns for, say, Jairo Garcia and B-prospect. Frankly, I think that's almost overpaying.
Grienke = Harden
Reds
It would be like the Mariners asking us for Byrnes and Beane demanding Felix Rodriguez. Or insisting the cubs give up Prior for Byrnes. Absolutely ridiculous! You'd think the Reds would want to make trades---clearly they don't. Talk about overvaluing your own prospects
For Kearns, I'd give up ONE of the following pitchers: Braden, Garcia, Windsor.
The best position player prospect I'd give up would be Ethier, but honestly I'd rather keep him.
If Beane could make a deal somewhere along the lines of Garcia/Putnam, then I'd be happy getting Kearns. Any more than that is just too much.
If the Reds don't like it, they can keep him and stay a terrible team. It makes me mad that they asked for Harden! Who do they think they are!
