On Photos, Bobbleheads, Harden & ADAM (The Ballboy)

I was so excited to get to this game early that I set my alarm for 8:00am. I thought I'd get to the stadium at around 9:00, wait in line for a few hours, and get a bobblehead for sure. But of course, I stayed up late again, was so groggy this morning that I accidently reset my alarm, and then didn't wake up until 10:50am. I begged my dad to take me to BART, arrived at the stadium at around 11:45, and saw tons of people walk out of colosium carrying not one, not two, but BAGFULS of bobbleheads. Some people literally had at least 10 bobbleheads!

Star-divide

I thought I had missed them for sure, but there were still a few boxes left when I got in. I was told that I was "really lucky" as they handed me a bobblehead.

By the time I got there, the batting cages were already down [batting practice ends at 11:45 I think], and only a few A's pitchers were hanging out around the bullpen area. Saarloos was on the mound when I got there.

Zito warmed up for a bit, before heading over to throw a few pitches.

Hmm... He's looking good.

Harden then went up to throw a few pitches as well. His pitches looked really good, so that's great news because he's probably going to be back soon. I didn't really get any good pictures of him pitching though.

Then to everyone's surprise, he actually started signing autographs! There was this huge mob around him... I don't know how I managed to make my way to the front, but I got him to sign my bobblehead. He was seriously really cool about signing stuff, he was there for a good half hour just talking and signing and signing...

I don't have any interesting game photos because I was sitting far away and I felt kind of lazy about moving up. After the A's scored 12 runs in the first three innings, the atmosphere was completely relaxed.

After the game, they pulled Bobby Crosby aside to interview him. He uniform was about as dirty as any I've ever seen.

Oh yeah, and Adam? Okay... Before the game, I tried to go down to section 128 and ask for an autograph, since I saw him come onto the field. But as soon as I walked down to the bullpen, I saw him run off to the dugout. I started talking to the Guest Services guy in 128, and he was like, "Well, I don't think Adam signs stuff, but you should try asking him after the game."

After the game ended and all the players left, Adam walked back out to the dugout. Everyone around me apparently knew who he was, and they were all asking him for balls. He threw his hands up and he was like, "I don't have any balls! I'm sorry!" And I was like, "Adam, can you sign this picture for me?" But he just walked away. And then this other ballboy was like, "Here just give me the picture, and I'll give it to him for you." So I did, but as that ballboy and another guy who joined him both tried to convince Adam to sign, he just refused to! They were like, "Oh come on Adam, it's just one autograph, just sign the picture for her." They must have asked Adam at least five or six times. And each time, he was just like, "I can't." And then he left.

So the ballboy who offered to give my picture to Adam actually seemed really disappointed that Adam flat out refused to sign for me. He said, "I don't know why he refused to sign, does he think he can't or something?" The other ballboy was like, "Heck, I'll sign the picture!" I dropped my pen cap [it rolled down the dugout roof] and they threw it back to me and they were really nice about it in general, so it just was really sucks that Adam wouldn't sign.

So this is my new favorite ballboy, and I'm going to at least get his autograph next time. Real sweet kid, he is :) And he's cute too, isn't he?

Sorry to hear Adam wouldn't sign for you, Melody. Thanks for the pictures.

Oh my GOD.
Melody, that is gorgeous. I mean... wow. That is the best picture of Barry Zito I have seen. How did you get it so perfect??

I swear. That left me awed. It's stunning. All of these pictures are... dazzling.

And Adam... geez, what a little b***h. I'm not trying to be mean, but that would really irk me. I wonder why he wouldn't sign.

Man, Melody. You did an unbelievable job with those pictures.

Go to the site... I'll love Zito forever! :)

I'm not really into Zito...
at least not nearly as much as you, but I liked that picture too ;)

It's all Zito
It's not me who got the picture perfect, it's Zito who's gorgeous and perfect ;)

If you want to get the full res version of the picture, just go here and download it!

Anyway yeah... I'm really sad with what happened while trying to get Adam's autograph today. I was really excited, I thought maybe I could ask him a few questions about hanging out with the bullpen or something. But he wouldn't even sign a picture, even after the other ballboys literally begged him to.

Awesome!
Great photos! We'll have to meet up at the next game we both go to. How did you get the special border and stuff along the bottom?

Border
The stuff along the bottom I had to put in through photoshop. But the border is really easy to get, after the img src="URL" tag, just throw in border=1. So it's like -img src="URL" border=1- except with the the <> things and not -. Anyway, I'll talk to you again in AIM sometime... We really were in the same area at the same time today, too bad I didn't know to look for you!

awesome post melody
I LOVE RICH!!!

i love that stubble he's got going there. i guess there's no reason to shave if you aren't pitching? lol. good for him for signing so much, though he probably has lots of free time. i cannot WAIT to have him back.

you take such awesome pictures!

hmmm, adam adam adam. that's disappointing. maybe he's not allowed to? i doubt it. perhaps all that tv time is making our ballboy's head a tad too big?

by the way, does anyone know what rich wears around his neck? i've always wondered that.

I know that
Brandon Buckley, the bullpen catcher, won't sign autographs either. I'm thinking Adam doesn't want to disrespect the players by giving out autographs like he's one of them...

by OaktownTribesman on Jun 5, 2005 7:11 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Well that makes sense
He could have just explained that though, instead of making it look like he was blowing me off. The other ballboys seemed like they would have no problem about signing stuff if they were asked to though. But then again Adam does get alot more publicity than the others do, so it's a bit different in his case.

Thanks for the heads up about Brandon Buckley too... I  was planning on getting some of his pictures printed so I could ask him to sign for me, but I guess I won't now. Baseball is just full of little rules, isn't it? :)

I can't believe Adam wouldn't sign anything!
We are his adoring fans, dammit! :)

Great photos!

I'm not a teenage girl,
but I'd say your new favorite nameless ballboy is a lot better looking, frankly, AND seems to have a lot less attitude. Yeah, it's possible Adam mistakenly thinks he can't sign stuff, but I doubt it--he's worked how many games?

I'd say we're learning more than we ever wanted to know about Adam's character, and that his new nickname should be "yesterday's news"...and I say this as someone who's never met him and has no idea what he's talking about--and really gives a rat's ass, besides!

Well I have been told
that I have horrible taste in men. [Bronson Arroyo, anyone?] But I think my New Favorite Ballboy is downright adorable and the fact that he's so nice just adds to his charm.

I don't know how unwritten rules go as far as who is 'allowed' to sign, but I don't think any of the players are going to feel insulted that someone asked their ballboy for an autograph. We're just trying to show that we appreciate the work they do, and to let them know that they're just as valuable to the team as everyone else is. It's all just for fun, anyway. Maybe Adam is just afraid he'll never hear the end of it if he does start signing, I don't know.

But yeah, I am SO OVER IT. And I'm moving on. Sorry kid, but you have to learn how to treat your fans right. Even if you really aren't supposed to be giving out autographs, you could at least say hello or something instead of just ducking into the dugout. Maybe Zito will give you some pointers.

Melody you were soooo correct in writing this
He threw his hands up and he was like, "I don't have any balls! I'm sorry!"

I know I know it's a cheap shot but it was funny to me

wow! Melody these pictures are AWESOME
I can't beleive Adam didn't give you an autograph.  After the game I went down by the dugout too, but by the time I got there Adam was gone.  I think I saw your new favorite ballboy though.

The same thing also happened to me with the bobbleheads--i barely got one.  I heard someone saying that they weren't allowing people to reenter, but there were still people with like five bobbleheads in their hands.  Arrgh.

by ChavysGrl3 on Jun 5, 2005 8:32 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Typically on bobblehead days
People go early and buy a boatload of cheap seats (it's not difficult to score $6 tickets with the right discount) just to collect the bobbleheads. They will leave and either not come back or come back later to collect more if they think they can. They'll make a ton of money on eBay selling whatever they bagged. Legal, yes. Ethical, probably not. Capitalism at it's lowest.

I so want a Harden bobblehead..
..but I don't want to support these people.

It's annoying
Yeah, I hate how people get in line two or three times just to sell stuff on EBay, when those extra bobbleheads could go to kids and stuff. It's sad.

You Rule!
There's really nothing else to say, except I hope one day we're at the same game and we can shoot some pictures together! My next Saturday game will be the 25th vs. the Giants.

They didn't take BP today
well, except during the first couple of innings.

I'm surprised there were still bobblers, there was pretty good attendance.

The next time I slap a guy's ass, can we all just assume it's because I wish I was a baseball player?

GREAT pics..
..of Zito, Harden, AND Crosby!  Although I love Crosby best [especially with a dirty uni. lol ;)], that Zito pic is too adorable.  I wish I could take pictures like that.  And congrats on getting a bobblehead!
I heart Bobby Crosby. =)

Awesome pics...
Harden, I've decided, is just adorable. Bobby looks like someone , I just don't know who.
Whatever it is, I didn't do it!
