Dan Meyer update
After reading earlier this week that Dan Meyer had recently begun a throwing program, I was startled to see his name pop up in the River Cats boxscore this morning. They brought him in during the 8th inning, when Sac was up 9-3. Here's his line:
2/3 IP, 1 H, 2 R (both earned), 1 BB, 1 K, 1 WP
Not great, granted, but hopefully that's partially due to being rusty and coming back into game-time pitching shape so quickly (so it would seem, based on the dearth of info about his condition for the last month). One note in his favor is that the second run was inherited and allowed to score by the subsequent reliever.
Did anyone go to the game last night? I'm curious how he looked, and what his velocity was.
Regardless, it's great to see him making some progress.

Other interesting minor league tidbits:
- Cliff Pennington when 0 for 2 with a BB in his pro debut last night, playing SS and hitting in the #2 spot for the Kane County Cougars.
- Despite some control issues (4 BB), Dallas Braden had another effective outing yesterday, pitching 6 innings of 1-run ball and picking up another win for Midland.
- Vasili Spanos was promoted to AA and started at 1B yesterday (I think he's the guy who played for the Greek Olympic team last year).
- There's a video clip of Andre Ethier's HR-robbing catch in the Texas League All-Star game posted on milb.com's website. It's right in the middle of the page, at the top, here:

Please help disabled kids in Sacramento play baseball by helping the Rivercats build a specially equipped field for them.
