Durrazo

Once this double-play-stirke out-machine brings himself back from the DL will he actually re-gain a spot in the lineup? DJ is too hot right now, plus hes providing solid defense. Though I'm not the biggest Hatteberg fan, he'll give you many more solid ABs than Durrazo.

As for his trade value, he probably can only go to an AL team and I seriously doubt even the Yanks are interested at this point. IMO a Cano for Durrazo swap would be okay with me.

Durazo
He is one of our few hitters with actual power. He should get back into the DH spot ASAP. He's not a douple play strike machine.

He was arguably our best hitter with a .320 average 22 homers and 88 rbi's......

California here I come, right back where I started from, Californiaaaaa, Californiaaaaa, here I coooooome (June 24th). (OC, i was inspired)

In fairness, ohad,
he never suggested Durazo was a douple-play strike machine, he suggested Durrazo was a double-play stirke machine.

Get your typos straight, boy--and get back to America!

actually
let's be perfectly fair..."durazzo" was referred to as a "double-play-stirke out-machine".  Both of you (Ohad and Nico - two of my favorite posters) neglected to note that "durazzo" doesn't just get "stirkes", he goes whole-hog and "stirkes-out".  So much so, in fact, that he is "machine"-worthy.

Tho, to be honest, I'm in no hurry to see him back.  Memories are short, I suppose.  He was great back in ought-four...

It's nice to want to post again, now that people aren't all yelling at each other and s@&t.

Wait - I vote for Kotsay over Byrnes (oop!)

Cano
The Yankees seem to think that Cano is destined to be a "special player" -- or, at least, all their brass keeps saying so and the media in NYC tends to agree with them.  So I'd be pretty surprised if they went for that deal.

Although it could be that Steinbrenner is playing some kind of bizarre, secret Major League Roster poker, and if he gets Durazo he'll have a pair of former-A's power-hitting, left-handed batting 1Bs who are gimpy and way worse than they used to be, and he'll win the pot.

Cano
He is a special player, he's young and on the Yankees?  How was he never traded for aging veterans?  The Braves must not have wanted to trade Julio Franco.

Durazo
Ohad is right. At .321/.396/.523 Durazo was our best hitter last year (Chavez's .276/.397/.501 is the only one close). If you thinks that last year was the fluke, or that at age 31 Durazo is suddenly over-the-hill  - and admittedly, either of those is a possibility - then, yeah, get rid of him. But if you think that his poor performance this year was caused by the elbow tendinitis, or merely a temporary slump, then you should be eager to have him healthy and back in the lineup, because even with our current hot streak, the lack of power in the lineup is still a problem. I tend toward this latter point of view.

Cano wouldn't excite me at all either. We already have plenty of mediocre second basemen.

I think
DJ is the answer at first this year and next at least. Durrazo will be gone at the end of this year and unless we are less than 5 games out by the trade deadline why not get something for him?

I merely suggested Cano for the Yanks and I guess the O's are the only two real teams I can think that would want him.

Keep it up Danny!
At this point Hatteberg has a much higher value than Durazo. I doubt we could get much for durazo. We might get a little more for Hatteberg mostly because he is a very consistent left handed bat and he can be traded to either League while Durazo can only be traded to the AL. To point one more reason is that Hatte has been healthy and since there both on their final year of their contracts it doesn't make much difference.

to me durazo's
a punk. He comes off an excellent year, signs the biggest contract of his career, decides he doesn't need to work on any baseball skills other than hitting, is asked to play one game at first base and some how hurts his elbow. Just pathetic! He's now missed more than a month.

Before he got his owie he's hitting .237, .217 with RISP and on pace to hit 15 homers and 60 RBIs this year. His numbers were actually worse in May than April.

It looks like his main value to this team is as trade bait and like Dotel that may not even be an option. You can bet Beane is pissed.

by the way
22 homers in a year shows you have some power but in no way makes you a power hiter

in no way
am I a power speler.

by KCAs on Jun 23, 2005 11:15 PM PDT reply actions

we still need an everyday DH
I consider hatteberg to be the everyday guy but don't put Byrnes or Ginter as DH that is just patethic. It was very wrong for him to play 1B but at least he tried.

I think Durazo would be a great boost for our line
up at DH.

WHY NOT?  He hit freakin .320 last year!!

So what if he started slow. So did CHAVEZ! and every other player on this team.

Get Durazo back and let him mash (alternating with Hatte only).

Durazo is "hurt"
Not that long ago, Crosby was playing with one leg and Chavez and his arm/shoulder in a sling. Guys play hurt all the time. It was a little strange that ED went down, after playing so bad. Oh, there happens to be a guy in Sacramento that could step in? What are the chances??

Forget
Durazo.  Dan Johnson looks so much better up there at the plate.  He seems to always be putting good wood on the ball.  Besides, I'm sick of Durazo's "two faces".  He has the "squinty I look like a have a tooth ache face", then he has the "eyes open I look really surprised face".  Those are the only two faces he can make!

and only does what is best for the team.

by Just Me on Jun 24, 2005 10:07 AM PDT up reply actions

I think
Durazo is actually injured and the A's would actually prefer to have him in the lineup. I also think some people have watched "The Crying Game" too many times and need to stop overlooking the obvious.
