Interesting thought
The difference a year makes in the mind of some fans.  At this time last year everyone loved Chavez.   Pretty sure he had signed his new contract.  Kielty was hated.  People wanted his head.

Signed up for mlb.com TV.

For 30 seconds so far, it's brilliant.  No gaps, stops, delays, or anything else.  Announcers are using the "scooter-o" name variation.

I stole my friend's account mlb.tv account
Before I tried it I thought it was kind of a waste of money, but now I think it's totally worth it... I'll probably get an account for myself if they offer a better deal midseason.

MLB.tv is the best
So far I've lost coverage for about half of one game this year due to MLB.com redesign or something, but apart from that - no problems at all. Well worth it, man.

Yup
This year it's improved a bit, plus they carry alot more games. The only A's games I've missed were the blacked out ones (ESPN or vs. Red Sox) or the ones I wasn't at home to watch.

No, we've actually
dodged the bullet, IMO. First 5 hitters for the Jays, 2 walks and 2 fly outs, told the story early. Saarloos is up with a lot of pitches, not with normal command.

5IP, 2 runs is outstanding for Saarloos with poor command. Our offense's job is to score enough for him.

Hay
To answer Ken Korach:

Before hay is hay, it is grass.  It has be to be cut and then left out in the sun to dry to become hay.  In California that's not a big deal, but in other regions where the sun doesn't come out all day every day, you have to watch the weather so that you "make hay while the sun shines", ie, take advantage of an opportunity when it presents itself.

I'd get Duke up now, go batter to batter with Los Kirk, simply because Kirk's been up in the zone all night and done a great job to weather it--no need to let the Jays back in the game, with a rested pen: Duke, Rincon, and Street can take it from here, as needed.

Saarloos
may not be "consistently awesome" but he has been incredibly consistent: 5-6 innings, 2-3 runs almost every time out. Very solid for a #5, and tonight he did it without his best stuff by far (0 K's, btw).

And for all the "hiding under the bed" Rincon inspires, he's really pitched well far more often than not.

I said this before, and I'll say it over and over again... I really like Saarloos so I hope he stays with the A's, whether that's in the starting rotation, or the bullpen, or what not. He really is consistant, has a great attitude and he's a fighter the whole way through. [He also is a fan of reality TV, or at least his wife makes him watch it with her :)]

by Melody on Jun 2, 2005 8:57 PM PDT up reply actions

The A's still have a chance at the division.
I've been reading diary, after diary about how everything we do is for 2006 and 2007.  Man, the future is now.  I still think we should be a better overall team than last year.  Mulder was the worst pitcher in the second half of 04 and Hudson was gone for over 1/3 of the season.  We've got a better bullpen and more seasoning with Harden.  Our offense should be better this year than last when you look at things.
What do you guys think?  We are young and inconsistent but should be better as the season goes along.

The thing about Rincon that make everyone
nervous is he can be lights out or he can get bombed. You never know what you will get and with a runner on 3rd it only intensifies it. he has been better this year but you never know when he might come out and start giving up runs.

by SanTropez on Jun 2, 2005 8:51 PM PDT reply actions

In reality, though,
that can be said of 90% of the pitchers around. And as Ken K. points out, Rincon always gets the toughest hitters in the toughest spots, by design.

yeah, thats really the case...
people always remember the bad...and rincon has had some pretty bad blown games.  He's also had some brilliant games.  When used right, he's very good.  But there's always the fear that he'll lose the plate and get shelled.  Every team has one of these...and Rincon is ours.

essays are overrated...
I went to the A's game Monday night and watched the game last night instead of writing the papers I had due.  There's always after the game! :)

I have an essay too
I have to write a seven page paper on women in ancient Greek society. It's due tomorrow morning, I haven't started yet. :( The A's need to stop playing every single freaking day so maybe I can get some work done.

Are you all at Quarter schools?
I'm at Cal State Hayward/East Bay we're on quarters.  You're also on quarter too?  You should be out of school if you're in semester schools.

Homework
You two need to apply the elements of this game to your homework.  That way, you can justify it.

I'm sure ancient literature has the same elements as the tension of competetive sports.

Didn't Homer say, "Let's go, Athens-land" or something?

I don't know...
I don't think I could really write a paper comparing competitive sports with women who betray and outsmart men :)

What does he say
... after "rocket science"?

The sentence makes sense as "This isn't rocket science", but there's an extra syllable.  Sounds like "This isn't rocket science's street."  Huh?  I've been listening to that stupid commercial all season long, and I still can't figure out what he's saying.

Wow
And I thought Monday night was bad! Justin better not ever do that again... I think the A's are rubbing off on the Blue Jays. Bases loaded, one out, can't even score one run...
