This is from the Contra Costa Times: Hatte's nose is broke? I knew he hit it but didn't know it was broke.
It's been a tough couple of weeks for A's first baseman/designated hitter Scott Hatteberg.
He said he broke his nose when he was hit with a ball during batting practice before a game in Washington last week. He had dizzy spells for a few days but started last Friday's game in Atlanta.
Hatteberg started just twice on the six-game road trip and made his first start Thursday in three games during the current homestand. The A's promotion of rookie Dan Johnson and the versatility of Nick Swisher have cost Hatteberg playing time.
"I haven't played that much," he said. "They have another guy (Johnson) they're looking at. Health is not why I'm not playing."
Hatteberg understands the A's want to give Johnson an extended look and is not going to make waves. The team is trying to deal Hatteberg, an American League scout said.
"I'm not going to speculate on that," Hatteberg said. "I know it could happen. I'll tackle that when the time comes."
