Carney and Jared Lansford on Cold Pizza

Hey all AN'ers I've been lurking on the board for the last week trying to get my feel for the people here - gotta say AWESOME board and people

Carney thoughts on Jared getting drafted: ecstatic that his son was drafted by the A's.  His wife called him in tears at a charity event.

Most important thing Carney taught Jared: Baseball is a humbling game - never get too high on the game, never too low.

Jared always wanted to follow in his dad's footsteps.

Other advice to Jared: Work ethic, be 1st at the park and do whatever it takes to improve.  He did mention "pitching" will be his main work focus!

So it doesn't look like Carney wants him to play the field.

How do you know all this? Are you friends with the Lansford family?
I think Bill King and Ken Korach are fantastic broadcasters.

Nah Rich...
I'm stuck in Kansas so unfortunately I don't know them personally.

It was on ESPN's Cold Pizza this morning as a special segment on father/son combos in the majors.

That's a relief
I was thinking Carney might not let him sign because he got taken as a pitcher... looks like the A's were the only team that could get away with it.

I am not sure that whole thing
about him wanting to play 2nd was incorrect information. Imagine that, bad information in the papers or on TV.  Carney made it clear he was signing as a pitcher.
