Chez Nico Day Recap/Photos!

Our very own Nico had his "Chez Nico Dry Run" today. It took me forever to realize that Chez meant "house" and wasn't just a fancy word for "chef." Nico was kind enough to lend me his camera to use so we could get some pictures of the event, as I only had with me the horrible camera I borrowed from my sister. After some technical difficulty, I finally got the pictures online, so please enjoy! These photos are optimized for web viewing, so they should load okay on slower internet connections. For the most part, they are in the order they were taken. And if the photo is blurry, that's because they're off my camera.

Star-divide

The man of the house, Nico, sets out some rice for the guests.

Close up of some of the Thai food. If you weren't there, you missed out on some delicious curry chicken.

SecretASianMan and AlleninSF strike a pose in the kitchen.

After Anduex arrived, he was directed over to the table in order to fill out his nametag. Each guest was advised to put down both their username and their real name.

Our first special guest was Nico's dog, Poochini.

Even though Batgirl only lived a few blocks away from Nico, she decided to drive her car over. One of her amazing green and gold cupcakes unfortunately fell onto the floor of her car while she drove. She then proceeded to stick a rock into the cupcake to distinguish it from the rest. However, Nico was not about to let this cupcake go to waste...

All of us enjoyed Poochini's company very, very much.

This is Andeux and gigglingone, as they try not to smirk at Nico. *cough*

Gigglingone, SecretASianMan and ZeroIndulgence now all have drinks and gold cups, hmm...

There were lots of desserts, yum. Gigglingone bought brownies with M&Ms that spelled out "GO A's", while Batgirl's green and gold cupcakes embodied the spirit of the Athletics. Then there was also Nico's sweet rice and Mango concoction.

Eventually, we remembered that we were there for the game, not just for the food! AlleninSF, SecretASianMan and Batgirl settle into the living room. We decided to watch the TV with the sound off, and then listen to the A's broadcast on the radio even though TV was on a slight delay.

CheckSwingHR bought pizza for all, as well as his two gorgeous sons!

OMG, THEY KILLED KENNY [SecretASianMan].

Gigglingone, Devo, Andeux, and a revived Kenny. Poochini wants Devo's food, obviously.

And who shows up, but the man himself, Blez?! Blez and Nico decide to skip on upstairs to create a new AN thread.

A blurry ZeroIndulgence, Devo, and the television.

Mrs. Blez, Maya, Blez and Nico enjoy a nice rest on the couch.

As the game draws to a close, everyone [AlleninSF, Andeux, a blurry Mrs. Blez, Maya and Blez] are disappointed that the A's were unable to pull out a victory.

Anyway, thank you Nico, the "Chez Nico Dry Run" was lots of fun, and I'm really glad that you decided to host such an event! The food was great, the people were great, and it was just a cool day in general. Too bad the A's lost, we were so excited after the A's pulled ahead 3-2 in the 6th inning. The surprise appearance by Blez, Mrs. Blez and the adorable Maya was quite a treat, and really unexpected too. Nice meeting everyone, and thanks Kenny, for the ride to BART! Sorry if I got your username wrong, and also that I couldn't get more pictures, since the memory card filled up quickly :)

Beautifully done, Melody!
Thanks for doing this. For the record, in the shot where I'm holding the wayward cupcake, the position of my right hand reflects that at that moment I'm talking in a "valley girl" impression, not talking about my man-crush on Mark Kotsay.

As for what I was THINKING about...well that's really nobody's business.

Yup--a friend and I
prepared it all the night before: 4 1/2 hours of prep and worth every minute! (It's actually a lot of fun, by the way, to cook ethnic meals from scratch with a friend; highly recommended social activity.)

Food review
The food was good.  However I like my curries to be HOT.  But I know that Nico, in the interests of being a good host, toned down the hotness of teh curry for his guests.

All in all, good food.

I heck of wanted to go.... I was too busy painting my room green, though. I would love to go next time... unless I scare people too much. Those of you who met me at Mini AN day got a dose of me. Since Zito was pitching, I was a bit quiet... umm.... concentrating on the "game". ;)

Nobody got
disfigured, poisoned, or maimed at Chez Nico I. If you're lobbying your parents to let you attend the Extravaganza on July 9th, that could be a selling point--though I'd suggest phrasing it a little differently.

I actually
specifically avoided using that word, since I was replying to a minor (whose mom had expressed precisely that concern), but you had to be an ERVERT-PAY and say it anyway!

Yes, G&GG, it's true--not one person got raped, out of 10 whole people there. Better odds than you'd get at the nearest BART station, I reckon.

Hence my new motto: Nico's house--a place where people almost never get physically violated.

perhaps at the next Chez Nico
there should be a special "parent zone" for those who want to come along but not watch the game...they can stand outside the windows, watching to make sure there's no inappropriate behavior, but not have to be subjected to the game...

I can totally picture my mother at the window, knocking really loudly when someone goes to high five me when someone hits a HR, saying "Excuse me!" (BTW, I'm just kidding. I think.) My mom doesn't enjoy baseball. She enjoys A-Rod. ::gag::

Then again, I enjoy Barry Zito. Then she's like ::gag::. She doesn't like him!!! >:0

Ooh, yeah, see,
that's not gonna work, because people who like A-Rod aren't allowed within 100 feet of my house, so your mom really wouldn't be able to monitor the activity very well.

Also, if G&GG's mom were peering in through the window, what would I tell the other moms? "Don't worry about sending your kid, there won't be anything weird going on--well, except that another girl's mom will be leering through the window, but nothing else creepy."

Nico

by Nico on Jun 12, 2005 8:32 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'd be freaked out...
if another girl's mom was peering through the window. EeK!! My mom and you aren't gonna get along. She's totally biased towards A-Rod. She was going insane when I told her that he was the youngest ever to hit 400 HRs. ::rolls eyes::

Small sample size
Entirely too few people there. Not statistically significant. You'll need to host at least 1000 people at the next one, Nico, if you're going to make projections about safety.

I suppose you'll next insist that no one there developed TB, shot a nail through their forebrain with a nailgun, delivered acephalic triplets, or got harassed by military recruiters.

You didn't say it right
It's supposed to be "I hella wanted to go." I just painted my nails all green, but if I had to decide between painting and going to a Chez Nico Day, well then the paint will have to wait :(

I see that you have my profile quote as your away message ;)

Anyway, I'm really sorry about Thursday. If you go to Chez Nico 2, maybe I'll get to meet you before AN Day happens? I'm not sure if I can make it though. I always think I have nothing to do because I never do do anything, but then stuff still comes up that I can't plan for. I totally want to meet you though... right? You're not that scary... right?

Your profile quote rocks my socks. I love it! Of course, we've got to give credit to its originator, Nico!

"Since when are hair, eyes and smile the three deciding attributes?"
"I dunno-when were girls invented?"

And... it sucks that you can't go to The Hottness at the mall. :( I'm sad about that. I really wanted to meet you! And no... I'm not that scary. Well... It depends on which way you look at it. I'd probably be scary to the A's. ;)

Hmm...
I had a party on Saturday, and I put in the Green Day CD. In "American Idiot", when it's like "Fuck America", my mom was just like "OMG." She didn't say anything though. :)

Ass vs. Butt. Butt is what little kids would say. If I said "OMG Nick Swisher has such a fine butt" it wouldn't sound right. I have to say "fine ass". Deja vu... I just had this conversation with my friend.... :)

In true Blezian fashion,
I'll be opening up the guest list one more time for a one week "window of opportunity" to apply. This one will be bigger than the Dry Run, but I'd still like to limit it--maybe to 20--so that it doesn't feel too crowded and so that everyone can see the game (with 20, we'll need to use floor space but it's doable).

Those who already replied the first time and have confirmed for July 9th: you are set and don't need to do anything more.

I'll post a diary in the next week, with details on what to do if you're interested and aren't already on the list...look for the diary, probably gracing the AN airwaves this coming weekend...
