Garcia for Kennedy?

We all know that the A's and BB are hot on Joe Kennedy of the Rockies and that their scouts are scouring our farm system.  Well, on cbs.sportline, they mentioned one name in particular... Jairo Garcia

"With the A's said to be very interested in acquiring Rockies pitcher Joe Kennedy, Colorado is scouting Oakland's Triple-A for a close look at reliever Jairo Garcia, says the Denver Post. "

I would pull the trigger on this trade.  Garcia, while showing flashes of K-rod in the minors, he all saw him blow up last September.  Maybe he just needs some seasoning, but the A's could use another Lefty starter to compliment harden zito (especially need him if zito is traded...please dont though Billy!!)

is kennedy signed beyond next yr?
sure, that trade is a steal. Garcia is the old school pitcher with "upside". I hope Beane baits somebody to give up real talent for him. see: Frankyln German

Like suggy alluded to...
I would only pull the trigger on the trade if we are going to keep Kennedy beyond this year.  We shouldn't be trading away our young guys for this year rentals.  But, if we can get Kennedy and keep him for 4-5 years, i say go for it.

What's the obsession with Kennedy?
What has this guy done in his career to make us want him so badly.  He had a decent year last year.  His stats in every year, but last year are awful.  His numbers this year are extremely bad, and they're not inflated too much because his road numbers are nearly as bad.  He's 26 years old, makes $2.2 mil a year.  He's not going to gain a whole lot more exerience that will help him as he's been pitching the majors (I say that loosely because TB and Col hardly count) since 2001.  He walks a lot og guys and doesn't strike many out.  What is desirable about the guy other than the fact that he holds the ball in his left hand.

I think we can do better than Joe Kennedy
Sure, being a Devil Ray or Rockie is bound to make you suck, but I'm not sold that all he needs is a change of scenery.

Byrnes
Does the fact that Matt Holliday just broke a finger mean the rockies might be more interested in Byrnsie?

Its Joe freakin Kennedy
Pull the trigger? Cmon Jario has enough potential to be able to be coupled with someone to get a decent prospect (IE Byrnes + Garcia for ?).

Joe Kennedy stinks.

Thank you
This could be one of those guys who Beane like at one point and never forgot about, i.e. Kielty, Kotsay, Durazo.

I'll give Joe K. props for his stellar minor league career 5 years ago, but that's it.

Your point?
All three of those guys have had some pretty solid stretches, so how could his obsession with them be unfounded?

Jairo
Garcia IS a decent prospect so why would you trade him for his equal value and throw in Byrnes on top of that unless we were dumping salary, which we don't need to right now.

Well
Personally I would like to trade for Jake Westbrook, numbers are around the same but Westbrooks are a little more deceiving.

Keep Jairo
No way i trade Garcia for Kennedy. Garcia has WAY too much upside. The guy is  going to be a very good closer in the majors in the near future. Mark it down.

re
All saw him blow up last September?  C'mon now, we're talking about 5 innings of work, during the stretch run, by a 21 year old with barely any experience beyond A ball.  Garcia is still a very good prospect, and we shouldn't be dealing him for a guy who's probably no better than the other retreads filling our 4 and 5 slots.

To the fans
whose opinion of J. Garcia is colored by his  September 2004 struggles, how about this "September call-up" stint:

1-1, 12.27 ERA,  14.2 innings, 24 hits, 5 HR

Now THERE'S a guy who won't make it in the major leagues, for damn sure...

...Justin Duchscherer.

Garcia
for Kennedy? No frikkin way, it just doesn't make sense. The trade that makes the most sense fiscally and logically is Byrnes for Kennedy.

Dude,,,,,Joe Kennedy?
The dude isnt good...How can anyone call it a steal.  No way u give up a prospect like his for a pitcher like that.  Even if down deep you think Garcia never flourishes and u want to deal him....u get someone better now.
