Kendall works on throwing out runners

The A's $10 million dollar man is getting intensive training to learn how to throw out runners. One report has the A's coaches saying they have never worked more with a catcher. Good thing cuz the last trip to Tampa was a track meet. Jason not only isn't hitting much but he is dead last in catcher stolen base stats.

I would have thought an "all-star" catcher with ten years in MLB would have had this worked out. I understand folks in Pittsburgh know he lost what little extra base power he had three years ago when he tore ligaments in his hand. He is damaged. Why the A's swallowed the last three years worth $34 Million instead of other opportunities is an interesting discussion. It certainly limits what can be done to  become competitive....like paying a power hitter.

LMAO BOB!!! You think he's rushing???
- The problem, according to both Kendall and bullpen coach Bob Geren, is that Kendall is rushing.

"Everyone rushes," Kendall said. "You can tell yourself to slow down, but when you see a guy get a jump, you're going to try to do everything you can right away."
 -SFGate

This almost made me lol at work. I wonder if the young pitchers times to the plate are part of this? Or maybe all of those balls in the dirt?

The psychology of baseball A-Mazes me .

You see a catcher rushing because of huge jumps on the pitchers and it is his fault.

I have seen his throws become less effective, but, I also saw him throw some perfect shots down that were late because of the HUGE jumps. I also saw him, early on, throw out Rios of the Blue Jays when Rios had a HUGE jump.

I like waht was said about the throwing being a rhythm, just like hitting. You find the zone and lock in.

Geren is the man...
I really like how he saw the whole scope of things. And he understands how a little tweak can increase effectiveness.

Interesting how he mentioned letting pitches come to you as a batter instead of lunging. That is so true.

He has noticed Kendall begin to press and he is coaching him effectively...

Nice... :)

Now if we can only get Macha to go on an extended vacation we'd be fine.
