Open Thread: Game 26 - A's vs. Rangers

The A's and King Richard Harden with a 2-1 record and a 2.10 ERA take on Coliseum specialist Kenny Rogers with a 1-2 record and a 2.67 ERA.

Lots of news today as the A's called up the versatile Jermaine Clark and placed Swisher on the 15-day DL.  Clark is a Mr. Do Everything for the A's now.

I'm happy for Swisher that it isn't broken and only sprained.  Let's just hope it doesn't stretch into something too long.  It's a shame because Swish was just starting to get comfortable at the plate after his thumb surgery.

The A's lineup looks like this tonight:

Kotsay
Kendall
Chavez
Hatteberg
Durazo
Ellis
Byrnes
Kielty
Scutaro

As many of us suspected, it looks like Kielty and Byrnes will be the choice for now in the outfield.  But then again, this might have been the lineup even if Swish was healthy because of the solid at-bats against lefties Byrnes and Kielty give you.

The Rangers counter with this group:

Dellucci
Young
Teixeira
Blalock
Soriano
Nix
Allen
Matthews
Barajas

I realized that I jinxed King Richard last time because it was the first time all season that I didn't wear my Harden tee when he started.  But you bet your AN I've got it on today.  We'll see if that helps Harden's mojo.

LET'S GO OAKLAND!!!!!!!!

Anybody else watching on MLB.TV? Do you guys here that ANNOYING high pitch screetching going on?? WTF is that?? It's giving me a headache. A little higher and only dogs would be able to hear it. It's not because of MLB.TV of FSN per se, since the commercials are perfectly fine. It's something wrong with the announcers' mics.

MLB.TV
I love it when they give us the DIRECT feed from the stadium... you can hear the announcers testing their mics, messing around with them... the Rangers' announcer said his was "fine right up until we started then it just went nuts"... Before the game they were goofing around. I'm half-expecting one day for them to say some really obscene or confidential stuff one day in between innings... LOL

by OaktownTribesman on May 2, 2005 7:50 PM PDT reply actions

What were they saying before the game?
I love these feeds too.

One game, Lewin (I'm a Ranger fan) was talking about how a band he plays in wants to do all heavy stuff, but he's more of an 80's rock man.  He was carrying on this conversation with the sound guy, I think.  It was pretty funny.

by Mahon on May 2, 2005 7:54 PM PDT up reply actions

Truck dudes
The last Rangers feed I watched I got what I assumed was the guys in the broadcasting truck or something goofing off between innings. Like they'd blurt out gibberish on the air like "WABAWABAWABAWABAWOOWOOWOO" or play audio clips from classic movies. It was surreal.

This game Lewin and Green were just joking around and laughing, I wasn't really paying attention.

I swear Byrnes is more concerned with pleasing

I know he's a fan favorite !!

and of course, fans love hustling plays and HOME RUNS !!~

But HRs aren't his game and instead he's wrapped up in playing the role of 'Captain America' starring Eric Byrnes.

OK so they won't score 3 tonight ...
.... but for the sake of argument let's say the A's Rally for 3 ... that means 95 runs in 26 games ... average of 3.65 runs per game.

27 games equals 1/6th of the regular season, just throwing that in there.

if they stay on this pace (3.65 pgame), they score 592 in 2005.
