FENWAY COLISEUM?

I have one question.. Can someone please explain to me why the RED SOX have so many fans.  They are everywhere.  I've been to many A's/Red Sox games and they're always out in bunches.  And I hate em, I remember in the playoffs when Zito was mowing them down, I was all up in their grill thinking cool, we have this series in the bag.  I was back there for Game 5 and .. N/M.  But anyway, why do they have so many fans, do they travel down here?  Bandwagon?  It cant be bandwagon because they just won the World Series after 86 years.  So WHY??, they are sooo annoying with their old school 'B' hats that looks like its been through two world wars.  I've also many of their away games on Extra Innings and it's like this for every city.  There are Boston fans everywhere.. why??

It is annoying
but just a fact of life in the American sports scene.  Some teams just have it wherever they go:
Packers
Cowboys
Steelers
Eagles
Notre Dame
Yankees
Red Sox
I break it down to 4 groups:
Bandwagon.  Simple enough.  Those who have the broken in caps are better than the ones that are just off the rack.
Loyalty.  Fans of these teams support them through thick and thin and will go to all lengths, including travel, to be there.  During the 2003 ALDS, for every one A's fan that made it to Fenway, there were 25 that made it to Oakland.  Many were on BART and just blew in for the series.
Transplants.  The Bay Area has so many and it just proves that it is a better place to live year round over anywhere else in the country.
Media.  They play certain franchises up so much and put a mystical label on them that it influences those who don't naturally gravitate towards teams that are more geographically desirable.

Bandwagon from Hell
99.98% of the Red Sox fans that were at the Coliseum tonight don't know Ted Williams from Ted Kennedy.  These morons had fun watching the World Series last fall, and now they are all lifelong, diehard, born on Beacon Hill Red Sox fans.  They make me want to puke.  They wouldn't know Dom DiMaggio from Dom Perignon.  Harry Hooper?  Pumpsie Green?  Forget about it.  Most of 'em don't even know "Papi's" real name, for chrisssakes....

Actually, the diehard Red sox fans know nothing:
Except that they love the Sox....Do you know how many of them attended Ted Williams last game?

I did my part, ask LD:
Between Forrest and I we shut the 105, 6 and 7 sections up with our Oakland banter.

You just have to be the person that stands up and keeps the Oakland drone on long enough for these transplants to STF up. Trust me it works...

Yeah, I was impressed.
You just have to be louder than the competition, it seems ;)

they're like cockroaches in the kitchen
I was in the upper deck and about half the fans in my section were Bosox fans.  Then the sprinkles came and Cruz lost it, and what happens?  Almost all of the A's fans fled for shelter, leaving me and a few Athletics faithful and just about all of the Boston fans.  WTF?  I have to say they totally showed us up, and it SUCKED.

Reason there are so many Red Sox fans
Because it sucks to live on the East Coast.  People move here from there, but they don't move there from here.

bandwagon
I remember going to A's games back in '01 and there weren't THAT many sox fans. after they won last year, everybody is wearing red. either they jumped on the wagon after the WS or they were so-called "sox fans" but didn't have the guts to come out of hiding until they actually won.
Let's Go A's! Let's sign Rickey!

Last Night was Pretty Bad
The Sox fans were coming out of the walls. My buddies and I screamed them down in our section, but we were outnumbered.

Complete bandwagon fans!
I was in section 111 last night. We counted 18 Boston hats (in our section ALONE) that looked so new, I'm convinced they were purchased just before the first pitch. I only counted one battered and torn, navy blue-turned-sunweathered-gray hat there. When did Boston start selling their green and red caps? I saw tons of those last night also.

It's pretty frustrating, the hometeam loses and majority of folks in attendance couldn't be happier about it.

On a positive, at least the A's have scored 4 so far off Wells in the 1st...

Bandwagon indeed
There was a guy in our stadium on Tuesday who was clearly on the bandwagon, but he was a pretty nice guy. Alot nicer than the "diehard" variety that was sitting next to me the night before.

This bandwagon guy was so blatant he was asking US questions about the players and kept calling the Boston players by the wrong names.

On the bright side, he was there with his two little kids, and was trying his damndest to teach them about baseball, so there are benefits to this wagondom. Maybe one of those tots will grow up/wise up and become A's fans some day.
