Today on the two game open threads Tokyoak has been tearing me a new asshole about Yabu, and I didn't even notice it. I think he thought of me as a hypocrite for cheering on Yabu.
On "ethnic bias."
It's not an ethnic bias against Yabu, but a ethnic bias for Yabu. However, this bias ins't really for any nationalistic reason because he's Japanese and I'm Chinese. To those not really aware of Asian geo-politics, there are vast differences between Japan and China.
In a post a few months ago brought up the Sino-Japanese War. Like any Jew should never forget what Nazis did to them in WWII. Or any Armenian in response to atrocites committed against them by the Turks right after WWI. Or even Japanese Americans, being sent to concentration camps during WWII by our racist government while letting white Italian and German-Americans roam free in this country.
There were many atrocities committed against innocent Chinese civilians during the Japanese occupation of China.
If we are descended from people who have survived thse atrocities, it'd be a disservice to our heiratage for us to forget them. Forgivness is encouraged, but you should never forget.
The Sino-Japanese war aside I bear no ill will toward any Japanese person, what's done is done and two wrongs don't make a right.
I want Yabu to do well. My "ethnic bias" is simple. He's asian. Lookswise, I share more in common with Yabu than say, Harden or Durazo.
I've seen his Japanese stats and have been somewhat aware of him becuase I sometimes keep track of the Japanese Leagues and I believe he is a very much of a prototypical Billy Beane-type pitcher. Too much of a Billy Beane-type to be a bust.
I wasn't expecting a "big" season from him because I'm not expecting him to win 20 games and stike out 200. I was just being realistic.
Yabumania is here to stay.
