Unsettling Events in the Bronx

I've been watching the Yanks-Sox game on Extra Innings, and it's a very odd and unsettling day up there in New York.

Star-divide

Terry Francona isn't at the game; he was hospitalized with chest pains before it started. No word yet on his condition.

Derek Jeter was hit in the head with a pitch, stayed in the game to run the bases, then was removed. There has been no word on his condition since then either, even though quite a bit of time has passed.

In all this, Mariano Rivera has blown his second straight save; yesterday, it was  just Varitek yanking a HR on him, but today, he fell apart: four runs on three singles and three walks, blowing a 3-2 lead and costing the Yankees the game.

This sounds like good news to me......
Screw both those teams.............
Health wise, I hope they are OK.
But, let them beat each other up......
Now THIS is Billy Ball

Injuries
Kevin Millar also left the game after what was described as a "leg injury"
Kielty, rejuvenated by his new genetically created St.Pats Day/Oktoberfest, shows us why Billy and Ohad are geniuses.

i wish...
francona the best, but as far as the rest of those two franchises, i'm not losing any sleep.
Do you Yabu?

Well...
People being hospitalized and hit in the head are both unsettling. But Rivera getting lit up? Sounds good to me!

Yeah, the Rivera thing...
...isn't "unsettling," it's more in the nature of something worth celebrating.

But the other two suck.

yeah, I heard the end of the game
interesting...just a fluke, or the beginning of a downward slide for the big Mo?

The good news for A's fans is they seem to last longer each new season,
an appealing trend for sure

The Sox
are the only thing that can make me pull for the Yanks.

Dotel
Maybe Rivera is washed up and Steinbrenner will want to trade for Dotel.

Yeah...
I'm sure Beane is aching to acquire some of the Yankees' cavalcade of excellent minor league prospects.

This just in from the AP
NEW YORK -- Derek Jeter left the New York Yankees' game against Boston on Wednesday after he was hit in the helmet by a pitch and was taken to a hospital for a precautionary CT scan.

The results were normal and Jeter was expected to play Friday night against Baltimore, the Yankees said....

"He heard some ringing in his ears. He felt a little woozy," Yankees manager Joe Torre said. "Timlin wasn't trying to hit him. He was just trying to rush a little, and his ball was all over the place."

Despite my distaste
for anything and everything related to the Yankees, Torre is a refreshing quote. No blaming the pitcher or posturing for the next game. He simply states that it happens sometimes when a guy doesn't have his control. So different from so many other managers and players who blow everything into a huge concerted effort to take out their players.

Anyway, regardless of that, I still hope his team loses every game the rest of the year.

Torre's a class act
I don't care to see anyone hurt or sick, but I'm going to enjoy watching the Yankees collapse.

I WAS THERE!
my friend stpehen had an extra bleacher ticket. it was 67 and sunny, no clouds, light breeze, perfect baseball weather.
As i am partial to the sox (my first apartment was 5 blocks from fenway), i find yankee fans distasteful, at best. although they can be funny in a crude way.
they always play YMCA over the P.A. for the groundskeepers to come down and do a little dance, and some burly yankee fans started taunting a sox fan and replaced the words "YMCA' with "Why are you gay?" it got worse, but at least the guy took i well.
several people were ejected. at the bowling alley/bar across from the stadium after the game, a bunch of sox fans came in and fights nearly broke out. i never saw anything like that at the hofbrau.
jeter's been hit by pitches twice this year. timlin was just trying to come inside, and it got away. mirabelli, boston's catcher, immediately made sure jeter was OK. Derrick got up and walked to first, but then they pulled him. torre is a class guy for forgiving timlin. i just wish he didn't manage the yanks.
we heard about francona via a cel phone call, or else we wouldn't have known. there was very little report on the PA when new players came into the game, which was frustrating. At the Net (or whatever they call it now) i remember geting a lot more info than what bob sheppard gave us at the stadium today.
it's hard to be an a's fan in NYC. i hope to get tix when they come out here.

ESPN...
...just reported that Francona is on a plane to Boston for further testing.
