Bring Up Jermaine Clark!
It is past time to keep Eric Byrnes off the field. I was there last night for another round of his follies. I can't decide which was worst - his awful at bat with guys on 2nd and 3rd, his mis guided lollipop over Chavez ( wrong base and strange throw) or his 3 Stooges juggling spasm.
I can't recall a game this year where he hasn't ham fisted something. Thank God we have a profesional center fielder.
We should give Jermaine Clark a shot and send Eric down for fielding lessons and god know what to calm him down. He plays like he is on an amphetimine over dose. All his fielding skills (and they were never great) have diminished more rapidly than Canseco's. I can't imagine any NL team having any interest in him after this years highlight tape.
I can't imagine any pitcher feeling good about a ball hit to left when he is out there.

Don't clarify
It does say a lot about Byrnes that he realizes he just blew it ... blew it bad. And his emotional "outburst" makes the error much easier for fans to forget.

Golden Child
During ST, comments were made about how he had worked on being patient with outside pitches and he showed some of it in March. However, that limited patience has diminished to nothing so far in the regular season.
The Manny analogy is a good one, if he hit more frequently... but then you think of Canseco and how guys like Dave Stewart where pissed that Canseco dropped any work on his defense to focus solely on hitting homeruns.
I like Byrnes' for his attitude, but the guy has to improve his game and show us that he is working on it.

Yeah, the "golden child"
So it's kind of hard for me to understand all the hand-wringing. Byrnes has always been bad defensively. It's just some of "us" refuse to look at the truth sometimes and think because someone wears the green and gold, this makes him impossible to criticize.

Byrnes had to get a new hat due to
His career started as a defensive replacement first for Ben Grieve and then Jeremy Giambi.
The defensive questions came when he platooned with Chris Singleton in CF prior to Kotsay.
He has gotten progressively worse in the field and can't think or doesn't know situational baseball. His routes to the ball could lead to questions about his spatial vison - especially compared to Kotsay and Thomas.
He would look good in a Rivercat Uni patroling the riverfront in Sacto - - as long as he doesn't block good kids.
Recall when Billy finally flushed Jeremy? If Kotsay went off in the dugout last night, as reported, who could have been the target?? Byrnes left without talking to the media.
Durazo is our DH and proved good against lefties last year. I would rather preview Dan Johnson than see more of a tired act - even if he is another lefty.
