Forgive me ahead of time if this diary is off topic.
I freely admit that I am a baseball nerd and I play sim baseball at a sim site (whatifsports). The game is based on a statistical simulation based upon real data from real player seasons. You play in leagues against 23 other owners. Each player is assigned a salery based upon how good a season they had in a given year (the 2000 Giambi costs a lot while the 03 hatteberg is cheap).
I play A's teams and A's teams only.
I recently played in a league that dictated rosters based upon who is on a team's current 40 man roster plus a little bit of help. You could bring back 7 players from the franchises past.
Well, the 2005 Athletics won the division (with only 85 wins) and I guided them to a championship.
Here are some numbers:
Mike Norris:
3.37 13-8 264.1 ip
Steve Mccatty:
3.63 12-14 255.2 ip
Mike Moore:
3.45 13-13 235 ip
eck:
1.95 47 saves
Durazo:
.277 .329 .450 100RBI
Kendall:
.271 .357 .382 96runs
Kotsay:
.269 .326 .402
Canseco:
.265 .329 .488 35 homers and 121 RBI
Rickey:
.251 .335 .335 120 steals and 113 runs
Ginter:
.248 .353 .424
Chavez:
.240 .343 .424 24 homers
Crosby:
.205 .286 .360
The numbers tend to be low for most players because everybody can draft near all star lineups.
Chavez went:
.327 .471 .545
in the postseason.
yeah, I am a baseball nerd.
The series went 7 games against the phillies. Game 7 was a 2-1 thriller in 12.
