Emotional Outbursts

I know everyone's frustrated with the team's offensive woes, but what I'm getting from all of these posts is that what's most irritating to people is the lack of fire in the players, the lack of anger after they strike out or blow it in a key situation. I think that people here would just be happy if Chavy would swear at the umps or if Byrnes would start a fight with Charles Thomas or something ...

Can we check ourselves here? Is this rational criticism or is this knee-jerk anger? It's every fan's right to be pissed and want the players to share that emotional attachment to wins and losses but as players, they just can't. It's not healthy for them.

I'm paraphrasing this from a book (can't remember which): the players (knowing it's a long season and knowing that they will have as many 0-4 days as they will 3-4) NEED to take every game in stride, or else they'd kill themselves with regret over this pitch or that pitch or this error or that error. THEY'RE NOT FANS. We want them to be, but they're not. We live and day over EVERY moment, but they CAN'T. If they did, they'd be where Mitch Williams is now ... or Donnie Moore.

It's their JOB, and if they didn't stay focused, they'd lose their minds over the wild fluctuations between good days and bad days. I loved Tejada's fire, too, but I also remember him bitching all the way down the third base line in Boston.

Hey, I love emotional outbursts (I still remember Kotsay screaming at Manny after that botched call in August), but we need to remember, while they do indeed want to win, they can't kill themselves after every loss. There are just too many of them. If they press now, they may never get it going.

I agree, and that goes for all professions,
like when I made one mistake on my tax return and my accountant threw the adding machine at my head. But frankly when I corrected it, I didn't really appreciating him patting me on the ass, either.

i, personally would like an outburst
by one of our players after a bad call, or i dunno somn that gets their blood boilin. i wanna see someone like byrnes kotsay or chavez just get into another players face or maybe even a ump if they made a terrible call ( like mannys trap play last year. loved kotsays reaction).

sometimes, you need something like that to get hot, remember the red sox last year? they got into that fracas with th yankees and wento on to win like 13 out of 15. not sayin we should fight the angels or anything (although thatd be nice. we'd kick their butts) but i wanna see some fire out on te field. not literraly of course

Macha needs to step up
First he has a tough job, any manager does, I just think he needs to have an emotinal outburst.  Something needs to light a fire under their ass.  It worx.  We all remember the lolly gaggers scene in bull durham.  He does not need to put his team down,  but he needs to get tossed from a game.  Yell at the top of his lungs and get tossed.  A team needs to see its leader, because that is what a manager needs to be, get pissed.  Hell nothing else seems to work.

Lollygaggers...
Skip: You guys. You lollygag the ball around the infield. You lollygag your way down to first. You lollygag in and out of the dugout. You know what that makes you? Larry!

Larry: Lollygaggers!

Skip: Lollygaggers.

I love that scene.  Never fails to get me to at least chuckle.

Remember when Art Howe had that tirade in the clubhouse after they goet sewpt(?  I know they at least lost the series) by the Jays in 2002?  The offense turned it around, and Howe was another one of those "even keeled" guys...like Macha.  Funny that the managers around here are the "even keeled" types.
