Article on A's prospect Richie Robnett

The Visalia Times Delta had a story in today's sports section about former local prep star (and 2004 A's first round draft pick) coming back to the park he played his high school games in.  Puff-piece article, but interesting if you are an A's prospect hound.

here is the article

and a quote:

"[Oakland farm director Keith Lieppman] wanted me not to worry too much about the statistics.

I've had a lot of bad luck with some well-hit balls.

They told me, as long as I'm hitting the ball well, you can't worry about what the numbers are," Robnett said. "I was kind of anxious at first, but I'm starting to slow down, and trying to take it one day at a time."

Could we get the A's to do that, ya think?

Chavy as "beer batter"
with one free beer for every runner on base at the time.

It would help ease the pain ...

the Beer Batter is great
I was at an Oaks game where Francis Gomez (A's shortstop) was the "beer batter".  They make the anouncement during warm-ups, and while he was playing catch he heard his name several times and turned around to the crowd (only me at that point) and gave a What The Hell look to me.  I laughed and said cheap beer, to him.  He scrunched up his face and went back to warming up.  I wish I felt better about my Spanish so as to explain it to him.

Anyway, when he struck out in the 3rd inning, at least 100 of the 750 paying customers went rushing to the beer vendor.  There is a limit of 2 beers per person, and not one soul ordered fewer than two.  It is hilarious, and about the only thing keeping fans aware of the opposing team's batting order (when does #7 bat?  He's the beer batter right?).

By the Way, I won the tire roll and scored four free tickets... gotta love minor league ball.

awesome
AN has to adapt the beer batter somehow... not sure what the prize would be (you can't send beer over the net... can you?).

But definitely for AN Day 2, we have to pick some opposing shlub as the beer batter and buy ourselves a round if he strikes out.
