Are the things that should be done.

P.S. I think in that trade for Derrek Lee, we should get a prospect as well.

cubs
they still need a 2b right?  plus nomar will probably miss the bulk of the season.  maybe they would take ginter.  he's just rotting on the bench for us...

Yeah
In the poll it has Scutaro as well. Thats more than enough for Derrek Lee, we  shoudl at least get a decent prospect back

The Cubs
I really see something happening. We have what they need. Although I see a Byrnes/Dotel/Scoot (either or) for Corey Patterson and a bullpen arm or prospect. I would love to see him in green and gold. I hate perpetuating rumors, but the Cubbies are hurting bad.

They Love Patterson
And we don't want him either. The guys OBP is horrible. Derrek Lee is the guy we want from the Cubs. Trading Byrnes free's up room for Thomas to get in there.

it also seems
as if the Cubs have a knack of getting pitchers hurt.  Is it there regimen?  Should we be leary of a prospect pitcher (if they have one) from the Chubs?

Pitchers
They have a few really good pitching prospects. One  of them has already been injured for an extended period, i don't know from what.

Why?
Why would the cubs want to trade Lee? With Nomah out pretty much indefinitely, production is going ot be a major problem. They need to address pop in their lineup before they worry about closing games..........

Before Nomahs and Walkers injuries
I had the idea of Dotel and Maybe hatteberg and a prospect for Derrek Lee. After the injuries i have changed it to Byrnes/Dotel and Scutaro if needed for Derrek Lee and a prospect. Byrnes offsets that sort of, but giving Lee might end up being too much who knows.

Lee
I would love to have Lee, he's a great hitter with speed. Plus he had a couple great seasons for me on MVP baseball last year. I just think the Cubs would be leery about parting with him, though they do need middle infield now, and scoot is definitely raising his stock on offense and defense.

Isn't Kotsay
already signed for another 2-3 years?

A bargain indeed
And I remember that when he was traded to us most of the people thought that he had a bad contract!

I did.

Definitely a bargain
I didn't worry about the contract, but I thought billy was crazy to trade Ramon. Of course i had never even seen Kotsay play...........

Precisely
I loved Ramone, but I didn't have a man-crush on him.

Lee not going anywhere
I don't know why everyone thinks the Cubs are trading Derrek Lee.  I really don't think it is going to happen.  They obviously like the guy and he is not old or overpriced.  I think it is wishful thinking in all this trade talk.

by stuck in NY on Apr 22, 2005 3:25 PM PDT reply actions

Nobody thinks
It's just speculation since it's a trade that fits for both teams.

Fits for the A's, not for the Cubs IMO.
Reminds me of some of the trade rumors you hear out of New York papers.

by stuck in NY on Apr 22, 2005 3:40 PM PDT up reply actions

sigh
Why not for the Cubs. All they want is closer. Owner Jim Hendry is absolutely desperate for a closer, especially after that cost them the playoffs last year. It fits for them.
