Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

New Addition to AN (kinda sorta)

Hey everyone,

I recently registered, though I've been lurking around for some time.  I first found the site sometime at the end of August last year, I think from a string of sites starting at THT.

I've from the Bay Area, but am currently up in college in Oregon.  The nearest teams are the Kaiser Volcanoes (A - summer season) and the Portland Beavers(AAA), and it seems everyone roots for the Mariners.  Games against Seattle are both fun, and horrific since the A's finally get on TV, but I have to watch with a hostile crowd.  It was quite a relief, then, to find a place where I could take refuge, if only online.  It quickly became a daily stop, and my most reliable resource for game info, A's info, and baseball info.

I just finished plowing through Aces, which seemed like as good excuse as any to do the whole introduction thing.  It's an awesome book, and made me much more appreciative of the fact we still have a guy like Zito on the team (who I apparently share a birthday with).  More than anything, though, it made me pretty sad that a group that close to each other and us had to be broken up.  Though the future seems more bright than dim, 2004 definitely signaled the end of a era.

Anyway, I can't say I'll be posting too much, but I'll be here.

I'm from Beaverton
but am a huge A's fan because most of my family is from the bay and we don't have a team. We should do an AthleticsNation Beer Garden party at the next PGE Park Rivercats game! Any other Oregonians in the house?

Hey man
I live in Seattle now but once on a road trip back down to the Bay Area I was able to listen to an A's game from a broadcast based somewehere in southern Oregon.

Gave me the impression that was A's country?

Oregonian here too...
I'm living in DC right now, but my parents live in Dallas (about 13 miles west). I heard Volcanoes games are pretty cool. Welcome to AN!

Volcanoes
I've only been to one Volcano game, but it was fairly amusing.  They had some Blues Brothers event, which was interesting.  It's kinda difficult to get to those games, cause they have a shortened season.  Fun- but I think they lost to the aquasox.

Go Emeralds!
All right! It's the AN Oregon mafia coming out of the woodwork!

I'm down in Eugene (well, actually I'm stuck in Fort Lauderdale right now on a contract).  Can't get A's games on broadcast radio in Eugene, but at least we've got the Emeralds playing in town (Padres class A affiliate).

I could head up I-5 to catch a Volcanoes game sometime, but it would make me feel dirty since they're a Giants affiliate...

Another Lurker...
What's up?  Been lurking for a while.  Floating in the Persian Gulf right now.  Great website.

Another Oregonian for the A's
I'm in Beaverton and try to catch the A's affliates when they come to play the Beavers, Volcanoes and the parent team in Seattle.

I have wondered since Giants are broadcast on 1360 AM KUIK radio in Portland if the A's have considered broadcasting their games here too? I'd be a loyal listener. King and Korach are the best.
